Prison riot 13 dead: Violent riot between inmates leaves at least 13 dead

Prison riot 13 dead: Violent riot between inmates leaves at least 13 dead, A prison riot broke out Saturday morning in the La Pila prison in San Luis Potosi. The inmates had sharp objects and other improvised weapons and at least 13 inmates dead and 65 more were wounded, Reuters reported on April 27.

According to the digital version published by the Mexican newspaper Milenio, the rioting started in a cell block. The prison riot began about 05:00 local time, so there was an intense presence of police and Mexican military.

The number of deaths, according to Milenio, was confirmed both by the Attorney General and by the local Mexican Secretariat of Public Security.

Authorities gained control of the situation shortly after the riot started. Reuters stated that Concepcion Tovar, head of the state's prison system, told press and media outlets that at least 100 inmates were involved in the riot.

The riots and escapes from prisons in Mexico, many of them overcrowded and high levels of police corruption, have been a constant in recent years due to members of rival cartels fighting each other or managing their bands from prison.

Prison riot 13 dead: Dozens more hurt in Mexican prison riot

Prison riot 13 dead: Dozens more hurt in Mexican prison riot, A fight broke out in a prison right before daybreak on Saturday, April 27, 2013, and as Reuters reports, it got very ugly. The prison riot in the central Mexican state of San Luis Potosi has left 13 dead and at least 65 injured. It took a while, but state police were able to regain control over the prison in the morning.

At least 100 inmates were said to have participated in the prison riot, and Concepcion Tovar, head of the state's prison system, blames it on a gang. That gang was said to have been robbing and harassing other inmates in the prison.

The prison riot left 13 dead and all of the deaths were caused by some kind of improvised weapons or sharp objects. It is unclear as to whether all 13 dead and 64 wounded were inmates or not.

Overcrowded prisons in Mexico make riots a common occurrence, and it doesn't help that inmates from rival gangs are housed near one another. Once one gang member speaks to another, planning begins and riots, such as the one on Saturday, are possible.

Tovar went on to say that she wasn't sure if the riot was due to turf wars between drug gangs or not.

Cheerleader Body Found: 2 Years After Going Missing, Body of 13-Year-Old Hailey Darlene Dunn Recovered, A cheerleader's body has been found two years after she went missing, according to reports.

The remains of Hailey Darlene Dunn were reportedly found near Lake J.B. Thomas in Scurry County last month, according to NBC News. The 13 year old girl went missing two years ago, and authorities are still investigating what happened to the girl.

Authorities searched long and hard around Colorado City, with extensive resources used to conduct searches in the surrounding fields and landfills nearby. Her mother reported her missing on Dec. 28, 2010, and the frantic search for her included posting her picture on more than 100 billboards along the Texas interstates and other states.

Dunn's mom and her mother's boyfriend have both denied any involvement in the girl's disappearance. The boyfriend was a person of interest previously in the investigations but he was never charged with anything.

Her family has now announced that they will be holding a funeral for her soon, and they have said they hope that they can find some peace and healing after finally finding her body.

The body of the 13 year old cheerleader was found 20 miles away from Dunn's hometown of Colorado City.

School safety: Blountville child restrained after attacking principal

School safety: Blountville child restrained after attacking principal, With the recent attention on school attacks, it is another kind of attack that happened at Holston Elementary School in Blountville, Tenn., last week. According to an April 25 report by The Blotter, a popular feature on Times-News.net where crime reports are published, an 8-year-old child attacked a principal and had to be restrained.

Police were actually summoned to the elementary school where the child had punched, kicked, and bitten the principal. It took one educator and an officer to restrain the child.

The situation began when the little boy, who was apparently very strong for his age, was asked to refrain from standing in a chair. He refused to obey and then struck a little girl on the arm.

It is not known whether the principal attempted to defend himself or not, but three employees were injured in the attack and treated at the scene.

It is true that school can be a very dangerous place.

FBI Boston boat: Boston Marathon suspect's hiding place moved to storage by FBI

FBI Boston boat: Boston Marathon suspect's hiding place moved to storage by FBI, The infamous boat that housed Boston Marathon suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev for hours and was the scene of a vicious shootout on April 15, 2013, is now going away. The FBI is taking the Boston boat away from Watertown, Massachusetts and taking it to an evidence storage facility, per a Reuters report on Sunday, April 27, 2013.

The boat was simply sitting in the backyard of a man that lived in Watertown, and he thought nothing of it when police said residents could return to their home. The owner saw blood on the side of the boat and that the tarp had been pulled back.

At that point, the owner lifted the tarp and saw a very wounded Tsarnaev. The Boston boat owner alerted police and the stand-off was on. It later ended once Tsarnaev was overtaken by authorities and taken into custody.

While at the scene, the FBI processed the Boston boat for evidence and moved it on Friday to an FBI storage facility. FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller did not disclose the location of the storage.

Other news on Friday is that the FBI finished off the search of a New Bedford landfill. They were looking for evidence connected to the Boston Marathon bombings. There was no word on what was being looked for and if anything was found.

Some believe and have reported that the landfill search was to locate Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's laptop.

Honda recall: 46,000 Fit Sports recalled from 2012-2013

Honda recall: 46,000 Fit Sports recalled from 2012-2013, There is a huge Honda recall that is bring about 46,000 Fit Sport vehicles back in both the United States and Canada. The Honda recall was reported by the Associated Press on April 26, 2013, and has to do with a problem with the electronic stability control system.

Only about 2,000 of that large number are for the Honda recall in Canada. The rest are spread across the U.S.

The Honda recall affects vehicles from the 2012 and 2013 model years, and the company says that the stability control system will allow the vehicle tilt too far. That system will allow the tilt to happen too far before applying the brakes and preventing a crash.

The defect was originally found in government testing of the Honda Fit Sport models with a particular type of tires.

As of now, Honda has not had any reported crashes or injuries from the defect in these particular vehicles.

Those that own the 2012 or 2013 vehicles in the Honda recall can bring them into Honda dealers to fix. All that the dealers will do is update the system's software, and it will be at no charge to the owner.

Infographic by My Military Base for Military Appreciation Month in May

Infographic by My Military Base for Military Appreciation Month in May, May is right around the corner and with it comes Military Appreciation Month. With so many active soldiers in the military, both male and female, we should appreciate them every day. After all, they do put their lives on the line to defend us and the United States. Now there is an infographic that has been created to honor our soldiers. According to a press release by SBWire which was released on April 25 about the infographic on our military families, there are exactly 1,429,995 active soldiers, male and female on active duty. That is a lot of lives defending us and our country.

Although these brave soldiers in the military put their lives on the line for us every day, they do have their own families to take care of. According to the infographic, 56.6% of active soldiers have a family to support and 57.7% of reserves have family responsibilities. These statistics come from the US Army Community and Family Support Center. As well as these statistics, there are also 1.4 family members for each service member.

Another statistic according to the infographic is that those in the military tend to marry at a younger age. Most usually have small children at home waiting for their mom or dad to come back home to them but also feeling proud that they are serving our country.

Eastwood age 105

Eastwood age 105, Clint Eastwood may be 82 years old, but he dreams of making films for two more decades.

In a wide-ranging conversation Saturday about the art of film directing, Eastwood expressed admiration for the 104-year-old Portuguese director Manoel de Oliveira.

"It would be great to be 105 and still making films," Eastwood said. Chuckling, he called such a hope "the ultimate optimism."

Eastwood last directed 2011's "J. Edgar," a biopic of the FBI head J. Edgar Hoover. After acting in last year's baseball drama "Trouble With the Curve," he has several films in development.

The "Million Dollar Baby" and "Unforgiven" director joined fellow filmmaker Darren Aronofsky for a staged talk at the Tribeca Film Festival following a screening of Richard Schickel's documentary "Eastwood Directs: The Untold Story." Eastwood regaled the Tribeca Performing Arts Center crowd with the accrued, pragmatic wisdom from his late career as an acclaimed filmmaker.

Some of the highlights:

— On preferring to begin a take with "Go when you're ready," rather than the traditional "Action!": "`Action' puts a bad connotation out there, like some firecracker that goes off to get everyone going."

— On his willingness to take suggestions for a scene from anyone: "You have to steal a lot. You have to have a criminal mentality to be a film director."

— On the role of the director in a film production: "A lot of people fell in love with the auteur theory, but you're merely a platoon captain."

— On studio executives who told him no one wants to see a women's fight film (the best picture-winning "Million Dollar Baby"): "Who the hell wants to see anything? You never know until you get into it."

— On struggling to get films green-lit: "In the early days it was more of a fight. Now, they go, `Oh, well, if he's the old guy."

Earth's core temperature hotter than previously thought

Earth's core temperature hotter than previously thought, On Friday, a study on the melting of iron in Earth's core based on fast X-ray diffraction was published by Science Magazine. The study estimates that the temperature of Earth's core is 6230±500 K. Earlier estimates were lower, at about 5300 K. For reference, the effective temperature of the atmosphere of the Sun is 5778 K.

In the experiment, researchers used a diamond anvil cell to pressurize a sample of iron to 200 GPa (about 2 million times the atmospheric pressure at Earth's surface) and then heated it with a high intensity laser to simulate the conditions at the inner core boundary. As the iron changed phase from solid to liquid, X-ray diffraction was performed at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility. As iron atoms alter states, X-rays diffract at different angles, which can be measured to give researchers an estimate of the temperature of the atoms. The results were then extrapolated mathematically to the estimated 330 GPa pressure at the inner core boundary.

The earlier figure of 5300 K was obtained by similar experiments performed in the early 1990s, which used less advanced methods of measuring the X-rays.

"Other people made other measurements and calculations with computers and nothing was in agreement. It was not good for our field that we didn’t agree with each other," said Dr. Agnes Dewaele, who co-authored the research piece in Science, in an interview with BBC News. "Now everything agrees."

The new measurement is important because it provides the necessary data to understand the generation of Earth's magnetic field. The process that generates the magnetic field requires a temperature differential of 1500 K between the mantle and the inner core, and this requirement is now confirmed to be met. The old temperature figure was not hot enough to explain the process.

The new research is beneficial to all fields which study aspects of the planet’s interior. "We have to give answers to geophysicists, seismologists, geodynamicists - they need some data to feed their computer models," Dr. Dewaele said.

Hailey Dunn vigil: Sadness, anger felt among those remembering Texas cheerleader

Hailey Dunn vigil: Sadness, anger felt among those remembering Texas cheerleader, On April 27, 2013, an emotional vigil was held in Colorado City, Tex. for Hailey Dunn, 13, the missing school cheerleader, who was found dead just a month ago in Scurry County, according to the Standard-Times.

Hailey was last seen on December 27, 2010. According to police, her mother’s live-in boyfriend, Shawn Adkins claims the girl told him she was walking a short distance to her father’s home and then over to a friend’s to spend the night. She never arrived at either location. Her mother, Billie Dunn, reported her missing on December 28.

One vigil attendee, friend and neighbor Charlene Mayes, told the Times, “She has been with the Lord all this time… I hope they find whoever did this to her and get the punishment [he or she] deserves… They have been looking for that baby for two years and nothing was left but her bones.”

Susie Barton, who organized the vigil and had formed searches to try and find the missing girl, said, “I don’t feel very good about it… We will find justice. It’s now up to the Lord and the law.”

Travis Walston, who used to live next door to Hailey, told the Times he remembers a fun-loving young girl who enjoyed playing with her dog in the family’s backyard. He noted that on the last day he saw her before she vanished, she acted odd as though something was weighing heavy on her mind.

“I’m just mad as hell. How can this happen here?” he asked.

Walston added, “This case is going to get solved, I promise you that. Whoever did this has to deal with God or with me and [he or she] better pray God gets [him or her] first, because God is more forgiving than me.”

Adkins has been named the only suspect in the case by police and reports at the time indicated Dunn asked him to move out of the home just days after Hailey vanished. Adkins claims he had nothing to do with Hailey's disappearance.

In early 2011, ReporterNews.com reported a Dell computer was taken from the home of Adkin’s mother in Big Spring. It contained “approximately 108,498 pictures depicting deviant acts.” A memory stick containing “320 images and videos of a pornographic nature,” was found in the master bedroom of the Dunn residence in Colorado City during the investigation. Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs said both the computer and memory stick had images depicting bestiality and child pornography. He noted charges could be filed regarding the find. “We will have to get with the district attorney in Howard County to see if criminal charges are warranted,” Toombs said at the time.

Anyone with information regarding Hailey’s case is urged to call the Colorado City Police Dept. at 325-728-5294.

Swift $17 million mansion: Taylor Swift purchases massive mansion with cash

Swift $17 million mansion: Taylor Swift purchases massive mansion with cash, A short time ago, various media sources criticized Taylor Swift for purchasing a luxury property to be near her former boyfriend, Conor Kennedy. However, the sale of the house brought her huge profits and now Taylor wants to repeat the experience.

On April 27, TMZ reported that the successful artist just purchased a $17 million mansion in an even more exclusive neighborhood located in Rhode Island. The "Love Story" singer recently visited the mansion that goes by the name, the "Harkness House."

According to TMZ, the house was priced around $20 million, but money is no problem for Swift, whose meteoric career has given her a very large fortune. Swift was able to strike a deal with the real estate company, and she purchased the mansion for a measly $17.75 million.

The decision to buy the massive $17 million mansion was made after the singer went to the property on April 15 with her family and spent a long time searching every corner.

Perhaps Taylor, known for her many romances, has preferred to invest her time in homes which gain value over the years, rather than men, who always seem to bring her trouble.

Ice cream shop increases prices to decrease customers

Ice cream shop increases prices to decrease customers, A very popular ice cream shop in Germany has increased its prices to decrease customers. Why would they want to do this? Because the shop has so many customers that they are lined up outside waiting to get in and neighboring businesses are complaining, according to a report on April 27 by Digital Spy.

The 32 year old German ice cream shop owner is worried he will be shut down and has jacked up prices hoping that this will get rid of some of the customers. He says he has so much business that he wants everything to calm down.

Prices are increased as much as 1.20 pounds to 1.60 pounds per scoop. He stated that his aim is to reduce business to a level where he can stay open. His goal is to not make as much money as possible to ensure that other businesses stop complaining and he will not be shut down.

What do you think of this story? Don't you think it is odd that he wants to get rid of some customers? It is understandable that he wants to stay open but one would figure he would also be happy about the ice cream shop being so popular. Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Boston Marathon: Suspect's mom secretly recorded by Russia

Boston Marathon: Suspect's mom secretly recorded by Russia, In recent days the mother of the suspected Boston bombers has made headlines of her own. Investigators now say that Zubeidat Tsarnaev may have played some role in turning her 26-year-old son, Tamerlan Tsarnaev into what authorities are calling a terrorist. The most recent information to become available about Tsarnaev comes from Russia. According to an article published on April 28 by the Boston Herald, investigators now say that Russian officials have taped conversations that are allegedly between Zubeidat Tsarnaev and her son, Tamerlan from 2011.

The Boston Herald reports that the two were allegedly discussing jihad in the 2011 secret recordings.

For those that may not know, jihad is defined as; “A war or struggle against unbelievers,” according to Google.com.

Authorities say that there was no mention of the Boston bombings in the recorded conversation.

Mother and son were added to the FBI terrorism watch list in 2011 after Russia contacted the U.S. to have the pair investigated. American officials inquired about the Tsarnaevs, but closed their inquiry after finding no evidence of terrorism. However, both were re-added to the list in the fall of 2011 after Russia contacted the CIA.

Sons of Zubeidat Tsarnaev, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his 26-year-old brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev are accused of bombing the 117th running of the Boston Marathon on April 15. The double blasts believed to be set by the brothers killed three people and injured more than 200 others.

Many cities in the northeastern U.S. reported record high temperatures for the date as readings soared into the 80s and lower 90s. Highs of 88° at Binghamton, NY, 94° at Buffalo, NY, 89° at Erie, PA, 90° at Newark, NJ, 93° at Rochester, NY and 92° at Syracuse, NY, were records for the month of April.

1991

Memphis, TN recorded their wettest April ever with 15.03 inches, breaking their previous record of 13.90 inches in 1872.

1992

Intense thunderstorms dumped large hail up to 4.5 inches in diameter (softball size) and produced wind gusts to 100 mph across Tarrant, Dallas, and Ellis counties in north Texas, resulting in the costliest severe thunderstorm event in the state's history up to the time. Total damage was around $600 million dollars. More than 15,000 homes and 21,000 automobiles were damaged due to hail.

1999

As a snowstorm battered Prince Edward Island, Canada, the Confederation Bridge recorded a wind gust to 70 mph.

2002

Sirens were credited with saving numerous lives at Providence, KY where 50 homes were destroyed by a long track F3 tornado during the wee hours of the morning. A 15-minute lead time warning from the National Weather Service triggered the sirens, which awakened many people and sent them to shelter. No one died in Providence.

A violent F4 tornado carved a 64-mile path across Charles and Calvert Counties in southeast Maryland. The La Plata, Maryland, tornado was part of a large severe weather outbreak that began in the mid-Mississippi Valley early on that day and spread across portions of the Ohio Valley and Mid-Atlantic States. In La Plata, 65% of the buildings were destroyed in the downtown area. Cancelled checks, bank and tax documents from La Plata were found in southern Delaware, over 60 miles away. In Maryland, 3 deaths and 122 injuries were a direct result of the storm. Property damage totaled $115 million dollars. Tornadoes along the Atlantic coast are not common, and tornadoes of this magnitude are extremely rare. Only six F4 tornadoes have occurred farther north and east of the La Plata storm: Worchester, MA: 1953; New York/Massachusetts: 1973; Windsor Locks, CT: 1979; five counties in New York: 1989; New Haven, CT: 1989; North Egremont, MA: 1995. None were as close to the coast. The tornado traveled across the Chesapeake Bay almost to the Atlantic.

WTC Human Remains

WTC Human Remains, The medical examiner's office plans to search for Sept. 11 human remains in an alley behind a mosque near the World Trade Center where airplane landing gear was suddenly discovered.

The rusted landing gear piece is believed to be from one of two hijacked airliners that decimated the twin towers in 2001, exploding with fiery debris and killing thousands of people.

On Saturday, yellow police tape blocked access to a metal door that leads to the hidden alley behind 51 Park Place.
The chief medical examiner's spokeswoman, Ellen Borakove, said the area first will be tested as part of a standard health and safety evaluation for possible toxicity.

She said sifting for human remains is to begin Tuesday morning.Retired fire department deputy chief Jim Riches, who lost his son in the terror attack, visited the site on Saturday. He said the latest news left him feeling "upset."

"The finding of this landing gear," he said, "just goes to show that we need federal people in here to do a comprehensive, full search of lower Manhattan to make sure that we don't get any more surprises," as happened in 2007 when body parts were discovered in nearby sewers and manhole covers.

Of the nearly 3,000 victims, Riches noted, about 1,000 families have never recovered any remains. The New York Police Department has declared the alley, between the mosque site and a luxury loft rental building, a crime scene where nothing may be disturbed until the medical examiner's office completes its work. It's unclear how long that may take, Borakove said.

The piece of wreckage was discovered Wednesday by surveyors inspecting the planned Islamic community center, known as Park51, on behalf of the building's owner, police said.

The landing gear was wedged between the back walls of the apartment building and the mosque, which once prompted virulent national debate about Islam and free speech.

An inspector on the mosque site's roof noticed the debris, which includes a clearly visible Boeing Co. identification number, police spokesman Paul Browne said.

Chicago-based Boeing spokesman John Dern could not confirm whether the ID matched the American Airlines plane or the United Airlines plane hijacked by Islamic extremists on Sept. 11, 2001. He said Boeing has been asked to take part in the examination of images of the airplane part by the National Transportation Safety Board, which is providing assistance to New York authorities overseeing the probe.

The twisted metal part — jammed in an 18-inch-wide, trash-laden passageway between the buildings — has cables and levers on it and is about 5 feet high, 17 inches wide and 4 feet long, police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Friday.

"It's a manifestation of a horrific terrorist act a block and a half away from where we stand," he said after visiting the alley.

The commissioner noted that a piece of rope intertwined with the part looks like a broken pulley that may have come down from the roof of the Islamic community center.

When plans for the center became public in 2010, opponents said they didn't want a mosque so close to where Islamic extremists attacked, but supporters said the center would promote harmony between Muslims and followers of other faiths.

The building includes a Muslim prayer space that has been open for three years. After protests died down, the center hosted its first exhibit last year. The space remains under renovation.

Soccer Mass Brawl

Soccer Mass Brawl, Valbuena fired in a loose ball from just outside the box in the 25th minute as Marseille recorded a 1-0 victory for the 12th time this season and their seventh clean sheet in a row.

There were angry scenes at the final whistle after Fabien Audard slapped Valbuena in the face.

Lorient goalkeeper Audard and Andre Ayew of Marseille were sent off as tempers flared among both sets of players.

Marseille have 64 points with four games left, six behind leaders Paris St Germain who visit lowly Evian Thonon Gaillard on Sunday, and are looking good for the second Champions League spot next season.

Coach Elip Baup's Marseille finished Saturday's game with three injured players.

Defender Rod Fanni picked up a thigh problem and is out for 10 days. Striker Andre-Pierre Gignac will miss three or four days of training with an ankle injury and midfielder Benoit Cheyrou has concerns about his thigh.

Olympique Lyon, who have 59 points in third position and are five points adrift of Marseille, host fourth-placed St Etienne (57) on Sunday.

"This is a very important weekend," Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda told Canal Plus television.

"At this stage of the season the most important thing is the three points and 1-0 is our favourite scoreline."

Valbuena went close to scoring in the seventh minute when Audard palmed away his curling free kick from 25 metres.

The keeper shone again in the 23rd minute when he kept out a long-range effort from Gignac.

Audard was then beaten by a half-volley from Valbuena after he had parried an effort from Ayew into the path of the French international.

Lorient, seventh on 50 points, pushed for an equaliser in the second half but Mandanda stopped a powerful Maxime Barthelme strike in the 72nd minute and the woodwork denied the attacking midfielder a minute later.

Nancy, who climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time in seven months last weekend, drew 0-0 at Valenciennes and are fifth from bottom on 35 points, one point above safety.

Champions Montpellier stayed eighth on 48 points despite a 2-1 defeat at Ajaccio.

Andy Delort's 82nd-minute penalty for Ajaccio cancelled out Anthony Mounier's second-half opener before Dennis Oliech headed the winner in the last minute.

Ajaccio's Fousseni Diawara was shown a straight red card for a violent tackle in the 47th minute and Montpellier midfielder Younes Belhanda missed the resulting penalty.

Abdelhamid El Kaoutari of Montpellier was also sent off eight minutes from time when he committed the foul that caused Delort's penalty.

Tom Brokaw Lohan

Tom Brokaw Lohan, Lindsay Lohan DESTROYED any shred of dignity the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner had left ... and now it's nothing more than a joke ... this according to Tom Brokaw.

The legendary newsman blasted the dinner during an interview with Politico -- saying the standards for the once-respected event have fallen so low, his daughter's junior prom has more dignity.

FYI -- Lohan was a guest of Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren at last year's event ... where booze flows freely and Beltway nerds routinely bring show-offy stars as plus-ones.

Brokaw says he's so pissed at the downfall of the event, he won't ever attend again.

However, there was one wild and crazy celebrity appearance that he actually enjoyed -- wait'll ya hear who it is.

Doberman 1-Year-Old

Doberman 1-Year-Old, A recent video uploaded to YouTube shows a Doberman Pinscher playing with a 1-year-old child.

The video, which was uploaded to YouTube and has generated 30,000 hits, shows the dog playfully moving out and in front of the child.

All the while, the baby can’t stop laughing. “That’s why dogs are such amazing pets!” the uploader of the video writes.

“At least once a day she’s trying to play with Addison,” dog owner, Ashley Breuer of Savannah, Ga., told ABC News on Friday. “Lily has even trained Addison to hold one of her chew toys so Lily can lick it and try to get the treats out.”

Breuer said that the dog isn’t aggressive and protects the child.

“My parents had a German shepherd that was fabulous with the baby, but just in case, Lily would always nudge in front to get in between the two of them,” she said.

Qatar Nude Statues

Qatar Nude Statues, Greece has pulled two ancient statues of nude males from an Olympic exhibition in Doha after Qatari authorities insisted covering the genitalia with black cloths.

A Culture Ministry official says exhibition organisers wanted to avoid scandalising female visitors.Greek Deputy Culture Minister Costas Tzavaras, who visited the Muslim country last month for the exhibition opening, objected, saying the works should be displayed as they were or shipped home.

The statues have already returned to Greece,' a Culture Ministry source told Agence-France-Presse, who added that, 'Organizers in Qatar wanted to cover up the statues’ members with black cloth. So they were never put on display, they went back into storage and returned on April 19.'

So the statues were returned to Athens last week, the official said on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to speak on the record.
Qatari officials could not immediately be reached for comment Thursday night.

The statues date to the 6th and 2nd centuries BC.

They were among nearly 600 antiquities brought from Greece for the 'Olympics - Past and Present' exhibition.

'Explore the sanctuary of Olympia, its role in ancient Greece, find out about Greek culture and the festival held in Olympia and discover the spirit of the Ancient Games,' reads the exhibition introduction on the Qatari museum authority website.

Tulsa 2024 Olympics

Tulsa 2024 Olympics, Buoyed by its success hosting a major fishing tournament this winter, Oklahoma's second-largest city is now dreaming of something faster, higher, stronger: the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Local officials acknowledge the idea is a bit far-fetched, but Tulsa was among several small cities that received letters from the U.S. Olympic Committee asking whether they might be interested in hosting the games.

"Some people think of Tulsa as a flyover, Dust Bowl town," said Neil Mavis, a member of the Tulsa 2024 Olympic Exploratory Committee. "Many people think of cowboys and Indians. ... Bidding for the Olympics is the one way to change those stereotypes."

The USOC recently wrote to the mayors of nearly three dozen cities seeking potential hosts after New York and Chicago lost bids for the 2012 and 2016 games. Most inquiries went to major metropolitan areas, but a handful landed in smaller cities including Portland, Ore., and Memphis, Tenn.

Tulsa, home to about 400,000 people, was among the smallest on the list.

"I see this as a great opportunity, I really do," Mayor Dewey Bartlett said. "If we come off looking a little lighthearted on it, so much the better, but we are serious about putting our name out there."

The city would have a lot of work to do just to meet the USOC's hosting standards.

The Tulsa area has around 13,000 hotel rooms, far fewer than the 45,000 required, and Mavis said the city would have to finance and build an Olympic stadium to host major events. Tulsa's largest facilities now are the 30,000-seat Skelly Field at H.A. Chapman Stadium on the University of Tulsa's midtown campus and the 19,000-seat indoor arena at the BOK Center downtown.

And the price tag? It's steep: Mavis estimates it would take a $3.5 billion budget to host the Summer Games, though he insisted no local tax dollars would be used.

Tulsa hosted the Bassmaster Classic in February, drawing the event's second-largest crowd ever with 106,000 people. But more than 8 million tickets were sold at the 1996 Atlanta Games, the last Summer Olympics held in the U.S., and nearly 7 million were sold at Beijing in 2008.

Smaller cities often host Winter Games, such as Lake Placid, N.Y., and Squaw Valley, Calif. But it's far rarer for the Summer Games. St. Louis hosted the 1904 Summer Games, though it was the country's fourth-largest city at the time.

Mavis argued that Tulsa is about the same size, infrastructure-wise, as Atlanta was in 1988, when it successfully submitted its bid for the 1996 games. However, the Atlanta metropolitan area had about 4 million people at the time of the games — roughly the same as Oklahoma's entire population — and was home to the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and Major League Baseball's Atlanta Braves.

Atlanta farmed out events to other sites in Georgia; Mavis would do the same in Oklahoma. Mavis also noted the city already has suitable venues for several sports, listing 25-plus sites for everything from badminton to the marathon to table tennis.

Clay Bird, the city's chief economic development officer, admired the groundwork laid by Mavis and others. But he cautioned that city officials were approaching the opportunity merely to "see what's out there" and not because they think Tulsa has a decent shot at landing the 2024 Olympics.

"I don't want people to think that we have such rose-colored glasses on that we're going to jump into this with everything we have and compete," Bird said. "We believe in our community, but we don't want to be a laughingstock. We don't want to lose credibility."

City Councilwoman Karen Gilbert described the prospect of Tulsa being considered to host an Olympics as "a good kind of crazy." Two years ago, the city dreamed of obtaining a retired space shuttle — perhaps a piece of the "Altius," part of the Olympic theme: "Citius, Altius, Fortius."

"It's going out there and saying, 'We want the big stuff,'" Gilbert said. "It doesn't hurt to shoot for the stars, you know?"

Chris Pine Splits

Chris Pine Splits, According to E! News, the 32-year-old Star Trek star and 27-year-old Sports Illustrated swimsuit model have decided to call it quits 'They have split, but it was mutual,' said a source close to the situation.

The Star Trek hunk and his gorgeous girlfriend made their relationship public at last May at the Cannes Film Festival, where they walked the red carpet together.

However, Pine hasn't opened up much about the details of his romantic life, except for a small bit of insight he gave to Men's Health UK last year.

'I do like dating cynics – they tend to be incredibly funny,' the leading man explained. 'Dating someone on the opposite end of the happy spectrum teaches you an incredible amount of patience.'

If the split is real, Pine will be looking for a new cynic to spend time with.

Texas Execution Wow

Texas Execution Wow, A Texas death row inmate reportedly shouted out “wow!” in the middle of his lethal injection for a murder in 2002.

“Life is death, death is life. I hope that someday this absurdity that humanity has come to will come to an end,” 29-year-old Richard Cobb told The Associated Press. “Life is too short. I hope anyone that has negative energy towards me will resolve that. Life is too short to harbor feelings of hatred and anger. That’s it, warden.”

He was convicted of murder for shooting Kenneth Vandever with a 20-gauge shotgun in East Texas more than 11 years ago. Two women were also shot in the incident but survived.

Cobb never denied that he shot Vandever, who was abducted during a convenience store robbery along with the women.

“Wow!” he shouted out loud as the drugs started to kick in.

“That is great. That is awesome! Thank you, warden! Thank you (expletive) warden!” he added, which were his final words before his head hit the pillow.

He was declared dead around 15 minutes later.

“Mr. Cobb has never disputed his involvement in the crimes, but explained that he acted out of fear of Adams, who orchestrated the crimes,” a court statement reads, according to Reuters.

For the 2002 murder, his accomplice, Beunka Adams, was also executed last year.

KWTX reported that Adams showed that he gave the orders during the holdup and carried out the abductions.

Assistant Attorney General Ellen Stewart-Klein said that Adams had “total participation in a capital murder and the moral culpability required of one sentenced to death,” the station reported

Rodney Allen Rippy

Rodney Allen Rippy, Before he suddenly surfaced in the race for mayor of this hardscrabble Los Angeles suburb, Rodney Allen Rippy's name was likely to evoke that question inspired by that class of former child stars who didn't die young, end up in jail or a celebrity rehab series: "Whatever happened to that guy?"

Rippy was just 3 in 1972, when he became the toast of a generation as the pint-sized TV pitchman for the Jack In The Box fast-food chain. When he picked up a hamburger that looked as a big as a hubcap and tried to cram it into his mouth, America was entranced. When he finally said, "Too bigga eat!" a national catchphrase was born.

Soon the cute, chubby-cheeked youngster with the Afro as big as his head was hanging out in Hollywood with Michael Jackson. He made movie cameos and recorded a hit album called "Take Life a Little Easier."

Then the 1970s ended, and so did Rippy's career.

More than 30 years later, he resurfaced as a candidate for mayor in a city known variously over the years as the birthplace of gangsta rap, the murder capital of the country and the home of the drive-by shooting.

Although he got only 75 votes, finishing 10th among 12 candidates. The final results in the primary election, released Thursday, show that Aja Brown beat long-time Mayor Eric Perrodin, and will now compete in a run off with former Mayor Omar Bradley, who is currently facing corruption charges.

But Rippy's earnest but futile campaign raised the inevitable question of where he had been.

Rippy never strayed far from Hollywood, it turns out. He simply stepped away from the cameras.

When his Jack In The Box career ended about the time he was finishing high school, he went to college and earned a marketing degree.

"I wanted to continue to act, but at the time acting was a thing that unless you were really burning hot, you better have something on the back burner," he said recently over lunch at a Compton restaurant down the street from City Hall.

Seeing how the adults around him had turned a cute little kid from Long Beach into a national star, he decided marketing was the way to go.

He formed Ripped Marketing Group in 2000 and has promoted everything from smokeless cigarettes to leisure wear to country music. It gave him the idea, he says, that he could promote Compton too. He wanted to change the image of a city that, although financially troubled, has seen crime and gang violence drop precipitously in recent years.

He wasn't the first child star to remerge from anonymity to run for office. His contemporary, the late Gary Coleman, did the same when he launched his quixotic campaign for governor of California in 2003.

Unlike Coleman and many other former child stars, Rippy never got into a fistfight with an autograph seeker. He hasn't been caught in a crack house or drunkenly crashed his car.

"Don't get me wrong, I know the good, the bad, the ugly, but I have sense enough to stay away from it," he said. "My mom always said, 'Rodney, you need to understand this: It's very easy to get into trouble. It's very difficult to get out."

The Afro and the chubby cheeks are gone, but Rippy's appearance often has people scratching their heads, wondering where they've seen him before. Their reaction when they find out is sometimes like that of Saudia Pearsall's.

"THE RODNEY ALLEN RIPPY?" the waitress shouted with glee after she spotted him at a back table.

"Ahhhhh! I might vote for you just because I like you," she added, laughing. "That little Afro. 'This burger's too bigga eat!'"

A day later, she was having second thoughts, realizing she didn't know much about his campaign.

Her reaction — delight at meeting a celebrity but wondering what the heck he's doing here — is something Rippy says he sees often.

Rippy lost out on a marketing job once, when the person he was to work for started to believe he was being punked for a reality show: "He thought it was some kind of game, like I had some sort of hat-cam on."

Governor Perry Disgusted By Political Cartoon

Governor Perry Disgusted By Political Cartoon, Texas Governor Rick Perry said he is disgusted by a political cartoon that lampoons the recent fertilizer plant explosion.

The cartoon published in a California newspaper shows the governor declaring that business is “booming” in the state. The next panel features an explosion that is clearly supposed to depict the recent tragedy.

Perry said he was disgusted by the cartoon. He has requested that the newspaper’s publishers issue an apology for offending the people of Texas.

The governor wrote on his official Facebook page:

“The Sacramento Bee published a disgusting ‘cartoon’ mocking the deadly explosion in West. While I will always welcome healthy policy debate, I won’t stand for someone mocking the tragic deaths of my fellow Texans and our fellow Americans. I have written the editor and asked that they apologize to the citizens of West.”

Perry also sent a letter to the editor of the Sacramento Bee. He explained that he was disgusted and disappointed with the paper’s decision to run the cartoon. While he is open to political debate, Perry said he wouldn’t stand for someone mocking such a terrible tragedy.

Stuart Leavenworth recently defended cartoonist Jack Ohman. He also used the opportunity to criticize the way Governor Rick Perry does business in Texas.

Leavenworth explained:

“Jack Ohman’s cartoon of April 25 made a strong statement about Governor Rick Perry’s disregard for worker safety, and his attempts to market Texas as a place where industries can thrive with few regulations. It is unfortunate that Governor Perry, and some on the blogosphere, have attempted to interpret the cartoon as being disrespectful of the victims of this tragedy.”

The cartoon in question refers to the fertilizer plant explosion which occurred in West, Texas on April 17. Fourteen people lost their lives and nearly 200 people were injured as a result. An investigation into what caused the accident is still underway.

Cheerleader Body Found

Cheerleader Body Found, Authorities said that remains found in West Texas last month belonged to a 13-year-old girl who went missing in 2010.

SNYDER, Texas—Remains found in a remote West Texas location last month are those of a 13-year-old middle school cheerleader missing since December 2010, authorities announced Friday.

An unidentified person contacted authorities after finding the remains near Lake J.B. Thomas in Scurry County on March 16, more than two years after Hailey Darlene Dunn’s mother reported her daughter missing.

The girl’s disappearance and the cause of her death remain under investigation, Scurry County Sheriff Trey Wilson said at a news conference Friday. The Scurry County District Attorney’s Office received written confirmation of the identity of the remains on Friday, he said.

Texas Rangers informed the girl’s mother, Billie Jean Dunn, on Friday afternoon at her Austin home, said her attorney, John Young. Dunn will be driving to West Texas to arrange her daughter’s funeral, he said.

The body was found about 20 miles northwest of the girl’s hometown of Colorado City. The girl had been the subject of months of intensive searches in and around Colorado City and surrounding fields and landfills after her mother reported her missing on Dec. 28, 2010. More than 100 billboards featuring her picture and information about the case were set up along interstates in Texas and other states.

Shawn Adkins, who was Billie Dunn’s boyfriend when Hailey went missing, has said the girl told him on Dec. 27, 2010, that she was going to her father’s home nearby and then on to spend the night at a friend’s home. She did neither.

Authorities had named Adkins as a person of interest in the girl’s disappearance, but he has not been charged. Authorities later accused the girl’s mother of lying about the whereabouts of Adkins, who was found at her home. Billie Dunn pleaded no contest in June 2011 to making a false report to law enforcement and received a suspended 90-day jail term with probation.

The mother and Adkins have denied involvement in Hailey’s disappearance. Billie Dunn broke off her relationship with Adkins last year, Young said.

Freda Radcliff, who led Hailey’s Angels, an organization dedicated to finding the girl, attended Friday’s news conference.

“We’ve been searching for her for two years, and it’s like losing a child of your own. I hate it. I wish we could have brought her back,” Radcliff said.

Hailey’s paternal grandmother, Connie Jones, said that “At least now we can get some closure.”

“We can bury her. She can go home to her maker. She can be at peace.”

Hailey’s paternal grandfather, Bill Dunn, died in 2011, six months after the girl went missing. His widow, Spicy Dunn of Ponca City, Okla., said her husband spent much of the last months of his life trying to learn what became of his granddaughter.

“He was very, very hurt, and was on the computer all the time looking and trying to find anything that had to do with Hailey,” she said Friday. “Anything.”

She said family members made a point not to change their phone numbers so that law enforcement officials could reach them in case of any developments, even years later.

“It is a relief to know that she’s at peace,” Spicy Dunn said. “She doesn’t have any more suffering.”

She later added, “I hope the family comes to a closure. I know it’s very hard.”

Jane Fonda Most Beautiful

Jane Fonda Most Beautiful, The Oscar-winning actress was named one of People magazine's most beautiful women earlier this week, with Gwyneth Paltrow taking the crown.

Behind the scenes on People's photoshoot, the 75-year-old revealed her secret to looking youthful was being young at heart.

"To stay young at heart, you have to have love in your life," Jane told People. For me, it's my women friends. They put starch in my spine and make me happy," she said.

Jane, who had admitted to having plastic surgery in the past, confides that she never considered herself to be beautiful. In fact, she is surprised how good she looks for her age.

"When I was on the outside of oldness, looking in, I didn't expect that people would think I was beautiful at 75," she said.

Jane admits she has not always been so confident in her looks. Rather, her body love has developed over the years.

"Owning who you are, being good in your skin... It takes a long time to get there. It took me over 60 years," she said.

Tomorrow, Jane will cement her hand and footprints next to that of her late father, actor Henry Fonda, at Los Angeles' fabled TCL Chinese Theatre. Jane says she is "very excited" about the honour.

"I thought probably I would die and this would never happen," she told the Associated Press. "I'm just really thrilled that it actually is happening and not only that, but I get to put my hand and footprints right next to my father... I'm just so happy I'll probably cry."

After the ceremony, Jane will present a special screening of On Golden Pond, the 1981 movie she shot with her dad.

Bob Weir Falls Onstage

Bob Weir Falls Onstage, Guitarist Bob Weir was helped offstage last night after he was unable to finish his performance with Furthur at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. The Grateful Dead offshoot was closing out a nine show residency at the venue with their final set, but according to Jambase, Weir was struggling throughout the night on both guitar and vocals.

Weir's condition worsened during the band's second set of the night. As Weir played through "Unbroken Chain," he fell over and was helped back up by crew members. He was given a chair to sit in, and the band left the stage after the song. They returned after a few minutes without Weir, and Phil Lesh told the crowd that Weir was suffering from a strained shoulder and that the set would go on without him.

Further is set to play Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall tomorrow, though there's been no word yet on the status of that show, or whether Weir will appear. The band also celebrated a special occasion last night – before their set, it was announced that the Capitol Theatre's lobby bar would be named Garcia's in honor of Weir and Lesh's Grateful Dead compadre Jerry Garcia, for whom the venue was a favorite.

Tharold Simon Arrest

Tharold Simon Arrest, When former LSU cornerback Tharold Simon was arrested on Thursday night, we wondered if it would wind up causing him to slip in the draft.

If it did, it didn’t cause him to slip that much. Simon was pegged as a mid-round pick during the pre-draft scouting process and that’s just where he wound up going. The Seahawks selected Simon with the fifth pick of the fifth round on Saturday afternoon.

Simon was charged with public intimidation, resisting an officer and unnecessary noise violation by police in Eunice, Louisiana on Thursday. His agent told PFT that there were “20 witnesses” who say Simon did nothing wrong during the incident with police that led to his arrest and said that Simon is contemplating a lawsuit against the Eunice police department for violating his civil rights.

Simon won’t be called on to play much right away in a secondary that already has Richard Sherman, Brandon Browner and Antoine Winfield at corner. The Seahawks have had good luck with recent fifth-round defensive backs, selecting both Sherman and safety Kam Chancellor in that round since Pete Carroll became the team’s coach in 2010.

Russia Detains 140

Russia Detains 140, Russian law enforcement officers have detained 140 people at a Muslim prayer room in the capital, Moscow, as part of a search for extremist groups, Russian news agencies have quoted federal officials as saying.

A statement on Friday from the Federal Security Bureau (FSB), reported by Russian news agencies, said among those detained were 30 citizens of unspecified foreign countries.

Russian Information Agency said the detainees were taken to police stations for identification and questioning, and there was no immediate word on whether any would be charged.

State television showed men lining up and boarding a police bus after being detained.

No explanation provided

There was no indication of any link to the April 15 attack at the Boston Marathon, in which US authorities believe two ethnic Chechen brothers with roots in Russia's North Caucasus set off bombs that killed three people and wounded 264.

Authorities in Russia have so far declined to comment on the issue.

President Vladimir Putin said in a television appearance on Thursday that the Boston bombings justified his tough line against rebels in the North Caucasus and that Russia and the US must step up cooperation against them.

RIA reported that law enforcement authorities said some people who had been at the prayer room in the past had joined an extremist group in the North Caucasus.

But government critics say such raids are aimed largely at flushing out illegal migrants from the ex-Soviet republics of the South Caucasus and Central Asia, and to show that the authorities are taking action against extremists.

About 300 people were detained in a similar sweep in St Petersburg in February, and most were swiftly released.

NFL draft 2013

NFL draft 2013, When an NFL team invests a first-round pick in a prospect, it expects to receive an impact player. Perhaps not right away, but at some point within the first three seasons, the team needs to get high-level production in order to consider the selection a success.

As always, there were a couple picks from the opening round that stood out. It normally happens when a player that wasn't directly on the radar goes earlier than expected. The selection is often labeled a reach, and it's up to the player to prove the doubters wrong.

Let's examine three prospects who fall in that category this year. They will all be under immense pressure to prove they warranted going on Day 1. Should they live up to the hype, the teams will deserve plenty of credit for making the right call.

The Raiders are betting on a storybook comeback from Hayden. He suffered a life-threatening injury during his final season at Houston, which caused his draft stock to go through turmoil. It's always tough to get a read on how a player will rebound from that type of scary situation.

Oakland had enough faith to use the 12th overall pick on him. Based on talent alone, it's a reasonable selection. He was having a strong season with the Cougars, showcasing solid cover skills and NFL-worthy closing speed.

Once he returns to game action, the Raiders will see if he's all the way back to full strength. That's what it would take for him to excel at the next level. Until that happens, there will be question marks, but the risk could pay off in a big way.

The Bills needed to draft a quarterback of the future. In that respect, they accomplished a goal in Round 1. The decision to take Manuel over Geno Smith, Matt Barkley and Ryan Nassib, who was new head coach Doug Marrone's college QB, was a surprise.

Manuel is a talented prospect, but he's very much a work in progress who's going to become a project for the Bills coaching staff. The team must figure out a way to turn his raw talent into NFL ability on the fly. That's always a tall task.

The size, athleticism and arm strength are there, which is something the Bills haven't been able to say about a quarterback in awhile. But normally, teams take these types of chances later in the draft. Buffalo's need at the position was the trump card. Now, Manuel must prove the front office right.

Typo Obama FAA

Typo Obama FAA, A typo is keeping President Obama from signing legislation designed to end budget-related FAA air traffic controller furloughs blamed for widespread flight delays, a congressional source told CNN Saturday.

Apparently the holdup boils down to an "s" needing to be added somewhere in the Senate version of the bill -- it's not clear which word is the culprit.

The House fixed the typo in the version it passed Friday, and the Senate plans to fix it on Tuesday, a senior House GOP aide told CNN. The FAA "is not impacted," the source said.

The FAA issued a statement Saturday, saying that it had suspended all employee furloughs and that "the system will resume normal operations by Sunday evening."

The story was first reported by ABC News.

In rare bipartisan accord, normally quarrelsome U.S. lawmakers passed the measure Friday, capping a major congressional initiative as delays snarled traffic at airports.

The measure gives the Transportation Department budget planners new flexibility for dealing with forced spending cuts.

It also allows authorities to protect 149 control towers at small- and medium-sized airports that are slated for closure for budgetary reasons.

NASCAR pit fight

NASCAR pit fight, Two crew members of Richard Childress Racing were arrested on Friday night after they got into a fight in the pit.

The incident took place at ToyotaCare 250 for the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Va.

Michael “Big Mike” Scearce and Thomas Costello, 35, were both charged with assault, reported Fox News. Both crew members were released and a court date is pending in the case.

The Nos. 2 and 30 Chevys contacted each other in the race. Drivers Nelson Piquet Jr. and Brian Scott got into a scuffle, and Piquet kicked Scott in the groin area.

Later, in the track’s driver owner lot, a scuffle ensued and Scearce and Costello were arrested.

“I’m going to have to see if@SparcoOfficial can sew cups into my racesuits to protect my jewels. #nascar,” Scott tweeted.

“A part of me told me that he was going to hit me for 15th place, and then he did,” Scott told NASCAR.com, who wound up 20th.

He added: “I was just showing my displeasure with him after the race and then things escalated. I went to talk to him, I was a little heated and the camera probably shows it, but he kicks me right below the belt, which I think is a below-the-belt type of shot.”

Both drivers were summoned to the series hauler and had a talk with officials.

“We both got angry and it’s one of those things. Both of us think that we’re right and we’re both frustrated, so I mean, it’s racing. We’re racing hard and it happens. I’m sorry,” Piquet said.

NASCAR did not elaborate on whether fines would be handed out.

“We are still gathering all of the facts of what happened and we will address the situation once we have all the information,” it told Fox.

Chris Pine splits: 'Star Trek' star breaks up with girlfriend of two years

Chris Pine splits: 'Star Trek' star breaks up with girlfriend of two years, Actor Chris Pine split from his girlfriend Dominique Piek, although it might have happened a while ago. According to Us Weekly on April 26, the star of "Star Trek Into Darkness" and his girlfriend considered their split to be mutual.

Chris Pine is on his way to becoming one of Hollywood's hottest stars, not only starring as the legendary Captain Kirk in J.J. Abram's "Star Trek" reboot, but also taking on the iconic role of Jack Ryan when that franchise reboots in December 2013.

Dominique Piek is a South African model and the couple's traveling schedules conflicted to make it hard to make their relationship last. Pine has also previously been linked romantically to actresses Olivia Munn and Audriana Partridge. Piek was once romantically involved with NBA star C.J. Wilson.

With "Star Trek Into Darkness" about to hit, things are getting busy for Chris Pine and the couple, who have been dating since 2011, felt that their lives might be better by separating in order to concentrate more on their careers. While Chris Pine splits from the beautiful model, don't expect him to remain single for long, as he has now become one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors.

Breast-pump mom 'humiliated'

Breast-pump mom 'humiliated', Two recent cases of traveling breast-pumping moms resulted in their unnecessary humiliation. These cases also help illustrate the rights of breast-pumping moms in the face of ignorance or poor training.

On April 18, a flight attendant loudly and repeatedly refused to let Dawnella Brahos use her breast-pump on a flight from Minneapolis to Chicago.

The harassment came even though Mrs. Brahos had checked on breast-pumping when she made her flight reservations, and had been told her Medela pump was pre-approved. And the incident occurred after Brahos had flown on three other American flights and used the breast-pump with the full support of the flight attendants.

But on April 18, she told Fox Channel 32 in Chicago that she had been 'humiliated' and 'embarrassed' as the flight attendant told her upon boarding that breast-pumping - however discretely done - was not allowed. The flight attendant repeatedly checked on Brahos to make sure she wasn't using her breast pump.

The mother of three wasn't traveling with her 1-year-old son. She told The New York Daily News that she normally pumps every three and a half hours and began feeling painfully engorged during the normally short flight because it took off late and she'd spent the previous few hours checking out of a hotel, traveling to the airport, checking in with American and going through security.

American Airlines has issued a statement of apology: "We apologize for the experience Ms. Brahos had on a recent flight. Our in-flight personnel are trained to handle these situations with professionalism and discretion. American does not have a policy prohibiting the use of breast pumps in-flight. As with other devices that have an on/off switch, customers will be asked not to use them during takeoff and landing. Our procedures advise our crews to ensure that mothers who are breast feeding or using breast pumps have the privacy they need."

An American spokesman said Brahos needed no prior approval for using her Medela pump. A different brand of pump would have required prior approval, she said.

Another breast-pumping mom was embarrassed by a TSA agent at a security check point. On March 27, Amy Strand was stopped at Lihue Airport in Kauai as she carried her pump, a cooler pack, and empty milk bottles. She was told by the TSA agent that she couldn't bring the cooler pack unless there was milk in the bottles.

Ms. Strand, a mother of four and school principal, tried to explain that the ice pack was specially made for the cooler and wouldn't be easy to replace.  And, that she'd emptied the milk out before going through security to avoid carrying more than 3 ounces of liquid.

Strand said she only had two options: Leave part of the cooler behind or pump. There was no private place to pump so she went to the women's restroom. "I'm in a dress, in heels and I find myself in front of a sink and mirrors with travelers coming in and out of the bathroom," Amy Strand told ABCNews.com. "I'm standing at the sink with my breast hanging out, pumping. I wanted to cry. I was humiliated."

Like American Airlines, the TSA issued a statement apologizing for the ignorance of its agent. "The passenger has contacted us with her concerns and we accept responsibility for the apparent misunderstanding and any inconvenience or embarrassment this incident may have caused her," the statement said. "The officer in question is receiving remedial training."

In fact, the TSA website specifically addresses this situation and the current screening procedures."Parents flying with, and without, their child(ren) are permitted to bring breast milk in quantities greater than three ounces as long as it is presented for inspection at the security checkpoint. Additionally, empty bottles and ice packs are permitted under these conditions."

Ralph lauren lawsuit running someone over

Ralph lauren lawsuit running someone over, Preppy Ralph Lauren should stick to yachting ... because his driving sucks ... according to a new lawsuit.

Ralph invited Oprah to his opulent, well-decorated Colorado Double RL Ranch back in 2011. One of them had a bright idea -- doing an interview in his vintage 1948 Jeep ... which we're guessing smelled like perfumed potpourri.

A guy who was outfitting the whip with microphones was working near the back bumper when Ralph took the wheel and suddenly shifted into reverse ... violently striking him -- at least that's what he alleges in a new lawsuit.

The dude -- who worked for Harpo -- says he suffered injuries to his head, body and limbs, muscles, tissues, nerves and blood vessels in his head.  He wants more than $50k to cover his troubles and is suing both Ralph and Harpo.

The good news ... the courtroom will smell fabulous!

Mark zuckerberg political group for immigration reform

Mark zuckerberg political group for immigration reform, If you want to get a feel for how American politics really works, as opposed to the way they tell you it works, look no further than what's going on behind the scenes at the new political action group started by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and dozens of other Silicon Valley tech leaders.

This organization, FWD.us, describes itself as a nonpartisan entity dedicated to promoting immigration reform, education reform, and the "knowledge" economy.

The knowledge economy, Mark Zuckerberg explained in a recent Washington Post editorial, is based on education and technology and is distinct from the old economy, which was based on natural resources (oil, gas, etc.)

Given that the current focus of FWD.us is "immigration reform" and promoting the knowledge economy, and given the general support of Silicon Valley for President Obama and environmental conservation, you would not expect FWD.us to be using its money to trash the President and promote Big Oil policies that many environmentalists abhor.
But that's exactly what FWD.us is bankrolling.

Josh Israel and Judd Legum of ThinkProgress reveal that FWD.us is funding ads that attack President Obama and Obamacare and promote the Keystone oil pipeline and drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge.

For example, here's an ad produced by a FWD.us subsidiary called "Americans For A Conservative Direction." The ad supports Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (South Carolina) and praises him for supporting the Keystone Pipeline, trashing Obama and Obamacare, and dissing our current government as "Chicago-style politics" (another shot at Obama). The ad does not mention immigration reform.

ThinkProgress concludes that what FWD.us is trying to do with these ads is buy support for immigration reform by greasing senators on both sides of the aisle. To get the support of these senators, FWD.us is funding the promotion of causes and people that Mark Zuckerberg, John Doerr, and many of its other backers may find appalling.

The head of communications for FWD.us seems to agree with this assessment, telling ThinkProgress the following:
“FWD.us is committed to showing support for elected officials who promote the policy changes needed to build the knowledge economy.

Maintaining two separate entities, Americans for a Conservative Direction & the Council for American Job Growth, to support elected officials across the political spectrum – separately – means that we can more effectively communicate with targeted audiences of their constituents.”

In other words, to get immigration reform, we need votes. And we'll say whatever we need to to get those votes.

Sharon osbourne divorce

Sharon osbourne divorce, It’s official – Ozzy and Sharon are not splitting-up. The British heavy rock legend and his wife and manager have been at the center of frenzied media speculation that their marriage was on the rocks. It's not all that.

Sharon Osbourne cleared the air during Tuesday's episode of CBS chat show "The Talk," which she co-hosts.

“Everything that was printed in the tabloids has been…distorted,” she says.  The rumor was given more fuel when Ozzy revealed on his Facebook page that he’d had an 18-month-long relapse into alcohol and prescription drugs.

That Facebook post, explains Sharon, was the “only thing” that’s bears any accuracy from the recent reports. “He’s been in a very dark place. That’s true, it’s very true,” she says, adding “everybody knows he’s been struggling with this his entire life.”

The former "America's Got Talent" judge told viewers she never knew he was using prescription drugs, but admitted she was aware of his occasional drinking. But she didn’t know the extent of it. “It’s our business. We’re dealing with it. We’re not getting divorced,” she said, triggering loud applause in the studio.

“However, am I happy? No. Am I upset? Yes. I am. I’m devastated right now. It’s a disease that not only hurts the person that has the disease but it hurts the family, it hurt people who love you. We’re dealing with it, we’ve dealt with worse and we will deal with it and this too shall pass.”

There’s a warning for Ozzy to stay on the wagon. “Otherwise,” she says, “my husband will be taken to hospital to get my foot removed from his arse.”

Miley cyrus wedding off?

Miley cyrus wedding off?, I'm not sure how or when it happened, but somehow, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's rocky engagement has become one of our national obsessions. Will they, or won't they? Should they? (Probably not.) One week they're on, the next, they're off. Regardless of what's true and what's false, one thing's for sure -- there is most definitely trouble in paradise, and it may be more fatal to these crazy kids' relationship than we know.

After rapper Snoop Lion, who has been collaborating with Miley on her new album, and Billy Ray made remarks about how they doubt the "I do"s will ever take place, new sources are popping up to note that there's not even a question: The wedding is never ever happening. To quote Miley's one-time BFF, Taylor, "Like, ever."

A source close to Liam reports that his "family thought he was hasty to get engaged." Okay, fine. But that's not the nail in the coffin, right? Parents are often worked up over and opposed to their kids' wedding plans -- and does it stop them? Pfft! No!

But then there's what another source had to say:

The wedding is not happening. They’ve been on and off a lot. They’re smart not to rush into a marriage under those conditions. They’re not done, but they are dissolving.

Womp womp. I wouldn't be so quick to believe this if it didn't make so much sense! They're very likely doing the sloooow, painful breakup dance that's dragged out and back and forth forever before ultimately, completely imploding.

Then again, maybe they're just two young stars who aren't sure what they want just yet. Like Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. They're not supposed to know what they want just yet. There's no rush for them to walk down the aisle. Maybe Miley and Liam would be better off taking their time, maybe breaking up for a while to find themselves, or even rockin' a Brangelina-style engagement that drags on for a few more years. Seriously, any of those options would be far less painful to watch!

Zac efron "townies"

Zac efron "townies", The Townies set just got a bit steamier. After showing off his biceps in a tight fraternity tee in one scene, Zac Efron put the moves on Halston Sage in another, pulling the 19-year-old blonde beauty close for one serious smooch.

During the frat-party scene, Efron, 25, sports a military jacket and totes a sword, while his on-screen ladylove rocks short white shorts and a black hat.

It's clear he's wasted no time getting back into the swing of things following his hand-breaking incident during a fight scene with costar Dave Franco.

In the upcoming comedy, Efron stars as a frat boy who disrupts the quiet suburban life of a family man (Seth Rogen) who lives near his frat house.

Rose Byrne and Lisa Kudrow also star in the flick, set to hit theaters in 2014.

Nicolas cage "the croods"

Nicolas cage "the croods", Nicolas Cage has jokingly referred to his new film The Croods as a thoroughly "modern" prehistoric adventure movie.

Cage and Emma Stone lend their voices to The Croods as members of a caveman family who adventure out of their home with a risk-taking guide

In an interview with Flicks and Bits, the actor said the conflicts within the prehistoric family are extremely relatable for today's audiences.

"I think they're a completely modern family, clothed to be looking like Neanderthals," Cage explained. "The issues and the tensions that arise in the story of The Croods are things I think any family can relate to."

He continued: "The fact that [my character] Grug has a young daughter who's becoming a teenage young lady who wants to go exploring, maybe meet a boy, maybe fall in love… Grug is to an extent understandably over-protective. There's genuine fears and concerns with that. I think any father and daughter can relate to that dynamic.

"And it goes on, the mother-in-law is something that gets a lot of laughs because everyone knows what that can be like. For me The Croods is an extremely emotional movie because it does operate on those feelings we feel as fathers and sons, sons and daughters, daughters and fathers… it works on every level."

Cage also credited The Croods directors Kirk DeMico and Chris Sanders for letting him "experiment" while recording his lines.

"They allowed us to reach for something in the abstract, and they knew what would work when they heard it," he said. "They're not what I call 'precious' with the dialogue, which works very well for me because then I can riff with them."

The actor went on to say: "I think this is a very much a handmade, tailoring process that takes up to three years. And in that time a lot of experimentation can occur to tweak things and adjust things, and there's a great little scene.

"I don't think it was originally on the books, but the scene where Grug has a sort of meltdown because everyone's paying more attention to Guy, that was a very funny scene that was really a bit of a surprise. That was something that was new."

The Croods debuted at the top of the US box office in its opening weekend, taking $44.7 million.

Columbus Ohio teacher fired for being gay

Columbus Ohio teacher fired for being gay, The battle to have teacher Carla Hale reinstated is heating up. On Friday, April 26, more than two-dozen students protested outside the Columbus (Ohio) Catholic Diocese. The Bishop Watterson High School students had a scheduled day off from school, according to 10-TV, so were not cutting classes to participate in the protest.

Last week, Carla Hale told NBC4 that she was terminated from her position at Bishop Watterson High School because she is gay. Hale, a physical education teacher, has taught at Bishop Watterson for 19 years.

The fact that Hale is gay came to light after a student asked her mother to pray for Ms. Hale, after Hale’s mother died. Once the mother of the student read the obituary, she reported to the Diocese that Carla Hale had a female partner listed in the obituary. Hale was subsequently terminated for violation of Diocesan Policy 45116.1, regarding the “moral” behavior of Catholic School personnel. Hale was advised that she violated the moral laws by “publicizing” her relationship with another female.

Ms. Hale hinted that teachers are not fired for living with another person outside of marriage, nor other behaviors such as taking birth control. She also said she was “shocked” at the decision to terminate her.

It is illegal to discriminate against an individual in the workplace based on sexual orientation in Columbus and in Franklin County, but some individuals have claimed that Catholic schools would be exempt from complying with any such ordinances. However, Carla Hale’s attorney, Tom Tootle, says there are no exemptions for religious institutions.

A meeting was held on April 23, after Hale filed a grievance, but her termination was not rescinded. Hale has said that the meeting lasted for less than five minutes. LGBTQNation quoted Hale as saying, “I have committed my 19-year professional career to one thing: ensuring that our next generation achieves its full potential. I love my job. I don’t want money. I don’t want fame. I simply want to return to Bishop Watterson.”

Almost immediately after her firing, social media networks were buzzing, planning protests and petitions over the dismissal of Carla Hale. One of the petitions, at change.org, had more than 63,000 signatures as of Friday. The petition is still open. There is now on-line support for her across the nation as well as internationally. There have been offers for help for her legal expenses to help her try to get her job back legally.

Bishop Watterson High School is located at 99 E. Cooke Rd. in Columbus, Ohio, and claims to be “A comprehensive, co-educational, Catholic school for grades 9-12." It also claims to be "rooted in faith."

‘Two and a Half Men’ renewed by CBS: Angus T. Jones to return

‘Two and a Half Men’ renewed by CBS: Angus T. Jones to return, has been renewed by CBS for season 11 and despite previous controversies, Angus T. Jones will return; at least for some of the shows. In real life, Angus T. Jones is attending college and by continuing to perform as Jake Harper in some episodes of “Two and a Half Men,” the 19-year-old actor would be able to pursue his educational goals as well as his professional goals. On April 26, 2013, The Hollywood Reporter wrote that the “young star will attend college in the fall as the network and studio Warner Bros. Television are working on a deal to have him recur in season 11.”

While “Two and a Half Men” stars Ashton Kutcher and Jon Cryer have already signed their new one-year deals as regulars for season 11 on Chuck Lorre’s comedy, it is no surprise that Angus T. Jones’ final deal is delayed.

Angus T. Jones has been very outspoken about his wish to attend college during season 10 of “Two and a Half Men” and he has also been quite outspoken about how his character has been used in the comedy during season 10.

According to a 2012 NBC News report, Angus T. Jones said at the annual PaleyFest in Los Angeles that he felt “very awkward” being part of the more grown-up storylines that “Two and a Half Men” has covered during the current season in which his character Jake Harper began intimate encounters with women of all ages.

“'I mean, I am with these people on set that I have been with since I was 8 years old,' he said. 'And (I’m) doing the adult thing when I am still not an adult. I mean, I am 18, but I am not an adult'.”

Many “Two and a Half Men” fans agree with Angus T. Jones, an actor with smarts and a conscience. With the declining ratings of “Two and a Half Men,” maybe the comedy show’s writers could include some of those characteristics into the character of Jake Harper.

Since Ashton Kutcher’s character has money, Jon Cryer’s character has the lack thereof (and lack of everything else), why not have the character of Angus T. Jones stumble into a military academy and accidentally discover his smarts; the show could use a positive and refreshing twist.

Hailey Dunn case: Remains found confirmed to be Texas cheerleader, says attorney

Hailey Dunn case: Remains found confirmed to be Texas cheerleader, says attorney, Remains found in West Texas last month have been confirmed to belong to missing cheerleader, Hailey Dunn, 13, according to an April 26, 2013 statement from her family’s attorney.

Adkins has been named the only suspect in the case by police and reports at the time indicated Dunn asked him to move out of the home just days after Hailey vanished. Adkins claims he had nothing to do with Hailey's disappearance.

CBS News reports the remains were discovered near Snyder in Scurry County, about 20 miles north of Hailey’s hometown of Colorado City.

According to Fox News, an unidentified person found Hailey’s body near Lake J.B. Thomas.

CBS notes that in June 2011, Dunn pleaded no contest for lying to police about Adkin’s whereabouts, who was found at her home. She was sentenced to one year probation after serving 90 days in jail.

Anyone with information regarding Hailey’s case is urged to call the Colorado City Police Department at 325-728-5294.
