Be inspired by Halley's Comet with a viewing of the Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower

Be inspired by Halley's Comet with a viewing of the Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower, The Eta Aquarid meteor shower presents itself in our skies during the span of April 19th through May 28th. But the shower's peak is scheduled to arrive in the predawn hours of May 4th, 5th, and 6th this year, 2013. What's more, both northern and southern hemisphere viewers will get the chance to observe this shooting star display-----and with minimal interference from the thin waning crescent moon!

The Eta Aquarids this year are expected to produce between 10 to 40 meteors per hour during their peak days, with folks in the southern latitudes expected to see higher averages-----such as 55 to 65 meteors per hour-----compared to their more northerly counterparts.

The radiant of the Eta Aquarids can be found in the the 'water bearer' or 'water carrier' constellation of Aquarius. More specifically, the meteor shower appears to radiate close to one of the four stars comprising the asterism of the water jar within the northern quadrant of the constellation Aquarius. And, Aquarius-----one of the original 48 constellations, even documented by the astronomer Ptolemy in Antiquity, before being standardized as one of the mainstays in the present day's recognized 88 constellations-----shall be seen in the east-southeastern sky before sunrise.

The rule of thumb is that the higher in the sky Aquarius appears, then the more likely would viewers observe more Eta Aquarid shooting stars. It is important to note that Aquarius is expected to rise around 3 AM, which is why the moments just before sunrise are forecasted to be the best times to view the most number of Eta Aquarid meteors.

Interestingly enough, Halley's Comet is believed to be the source of the Eta Aquarid meteor shower, just as it is parent as well to the Orionid meteor shower later in the year. Meanwhile, from late April to mid-May the Earth's orbital path intersects with that of Halley's Comet, and the particle debris encountered lights up the sky as the Eta Aquarids. The comet's dust stream collides with the upper atmosphere at a rate of approximately 150,000 miles per hour, with the friction creating incandescent trajectories. Some Eta Aquarid shooting stars are known to leave persistent gassy or smokey trails that last for a few seconds longer than normal, thus making them be identified as fireballs.

Historically, the Eta Aquarids have been recorded since about 74 BC. But Lieutenant Colonel G. L. Tupman is officially credited as having "discovered" the meteor shower in 1870.

It's recommended that stargazers dress appropriately for the weather, bring blankets to guard against morning chill, and use a reclining chair so as to protect one's neck and back muscles from strain and over-exertion, since showers tend to have their varied spurts and lulls during a viewing session. Best viewing will be far from artificial lights, especially since the human eye can take a little more than a quarter of an hour to adapt to the dark. No special equipment is needed to view the meteor shower, since the naked eye alone provides the widest field of vision to observe the Eta Aquarids' display.

So this May 4th, 5th, and 6th make sure to treat yourself to a late spring reminder of the famous Halley's Comet when the Eta Aquarids arrive in our skies.

Ex-hooker estate fight: $1800/mo awarded to daughters of dead millionaire

Ex-hooker estate fight: $1800/mo awarded to daughters of dead millionaire, An ex-hooker estate fight has been settled by a Calif. judge. On May 1, SF Gate reported that the two young children of a former prostitute are in fact the daughters of a slain millionaire. The two girls will be getting some of their dad's money per the judge's ruling. The millionaire, identified as Ravi Kumra, was killed by gang members in Nov. 2012.

"Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Thomas Cain ruled on Tuesday that there is clear evidence that the 9 and 7-year-old girls are Ravi Kumra's daughters. He awarded them each $1,800 a month," SF Gate reported.

The ex-hooker estate fight has the girls' mother very happy. Obviously she wants her girls to be provided for and since their dad is no longer around, she wanted the girls to be taken care of -- but moreover she wanted them to be entitled to what would rightfully be theirs. Kumra has two older daughters who didn't think they'd be sharing their new "fortune" with anyone.

The older Kumra girls believed that this was some sort of "sperm donor" issue and that the younger girls were legitimate children. However, Judge Thomas Cain had sufficient evidence in the case to allow him to make a just decision. Kumra acted like a father to those girls more than his family might know (via Mercury News).

The ex-hooker estate fight still has one more piece to be decided. The judge is expected to rule on whether or not the four girls will equally share Kumra's millions.

Sunny and warm finish to the week

Sunny and warm finish to the week, A slow moving weather pattern will work in our favor for the rest of the work week. A storm system will become “cut off” over parts of the Midwest thanks to a traffic jam in the atmosphere.

A “cut off” low is an upper level area of low pressure that is removed from the faster winds in the jet stream. It can stall or meander over an area creating prolonged cool and rainy weather. Luckily for us, this system will get stuck to our west. That means central Ohio will be stuck in a nice weather pattern through at least Saturday. Not a bad deal, right?

The cool mornings will continue with lows dipping into the middle and lower 50s. Afternoon highs will also moderate just a bit from the 80 degree readings we saw Wednesday afternoon. Expect highs in the upper 70s both Thursday and Friday with readings a few degrees cooler on Saturday.

The cut off low will start to slide east on Sunday bringing clouds and chance for showers by late afternoon. The system will slowly start to get picked up by the jet stream by the beginning of next week. A broad trough (dip) in the jet stream will develop because of this over the eastern part of the country. This means that slightly cooler weather and patchy showers/storms will be possible for the first half of next week. We are not talking about a wash out though thankfully. Even with the cooler air mass, highs will still stay in the 70s next week.

No Steve Carell: 'The Office' producers say no Carell in the series finale

No Steve Carell: 'The Office' producers say no Carell in the series finale, Fans of the hit television comedy The Office are looking forward to the Season 9 and series finale, and the big question is, will Michael Scott, as played by actor Steve Carell, be making a return?

As reported by newsday.com on May 1, the answer is no, the producer of the TV comedy said on Wednesday.

The award-winning comedy will close out its episodes on May 16 without the bumbling antics of former office manager Michael Scott.

Greg Daniels, executive producer of the U.S. “mockumentary” workplace comedy, said the finale will be patterned very much akin to the original British version, in which the characters, now famous reality TV stars, are reunited.

"After attempting to beat the British ending in a number of different ways, we ended up doing something very similar," Daniels said, adding that his hopes are for an hour-long finale.

"We are trying to get more time and the network (NBC) is being very creative about scraping some more time without us having to start the finale at a weird time that will cause half the audience to miss the first 10 minutes,” he said.

As to why Carell would not be joining his previous office mates in the last episode, Daniels offered this:

"I think Steve felt, and I agree, that the 'Goodbye, Michael' episode was his goodbye and he didn't want to overshadow the ending that all the other characters deserved," said Daniel.

Since the departure of Carell from the show in 2011, audiences have fallen from a high of around 8 million at the show's height in 2007 / 2008 to about 5 million this year.

Audiences are curious about the relationship between Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer), which started to show signs of cracking this year. Daniels declined to give any spoilers but suggested their future would be largely resolved before the finale.

"My hope is that people will treat the last several episodes as the finale and not force us to do everything in the last episode. We didn't want there to be such anxiety over Jim and Pam that you could think of nothing else in the last episode," Daniels said.

Paris Hilton lingerie

Paris Hilton lingerie, Paris Hilton has made it official ... she's dropping her lawsuit against a swimwear/lingerie company and going into business with her former enemy.

As we reported ... Hilton and Le Bonitas were embroiled in a bitter lawsuit last year over a product deal gone bad. Hilton signed a 5-year contract  to create a line of lingerie, PJs and swimwear, but the project went South.

LB sued Hilton for more than $200,000 for allegedly blowing off her obligations ... and Hilton (repped by Michael Weinsten) sued back for $1.5 million -- but now the two have made peace, agreeing to a totally new lingerie/swimwear deal.

Paris and LB are now saying their old beef is "water under the bridge."

Skylar Neese murder: Classmate pleads guilty to stabbing death

Skylar Neese murder: Classmate pleads guilty to stabbing death, The truth about Skylar Neese's disappearance will soon come out. One of her classmates, 16-year-old Rachel Shoaf, has admitted to stabbing her friend to death and leaving her body in a ditch 20 miles from her Star City, WV home. Charges are pending against another teen who may have also been involved.

Skylar, also 16, was last seen on a July 6th surveillance video, leaving her family's apartment and getting in a car. The driver of that car (presumably Shoaf or the other suspect) was previouly adamant that she had returned her friend to her home, dropping her off down the street so she wouldn't wake her parents while sneaking back in. But there is no video of her coming back home. Her body was discovered on January 16th.

Rachel Shoaf plead guilty to second-degree murder, for which a 20-year sentence will be the state's recommendation. However, because she's really just a kid, the defense will ask that she be sentenced as a juvenile, which would carry a lighter sentence. That seems somehow wrong. She's not that far from being an adult, she committed an adult crime, why should she receive a light sentence? She murdered one of her closest friends, then lied to the girls' parents, giving them false hope for 6 months that their daughter may be coming home. Whatever her sentence, Rachel Shoaf's got it coming to her.

Dave Neese, Skylar's father, just wants to know why this happened to his daughter, saying there must be another reason than just being mad at each other. What reason will the two teens give for brutally murdering their friend? Soon that information may be known, as per the plea agreement Shoaf must “offer truthful and forthright testimony in any subsequent proceeding deemed necessary.”

You may recall that Skylar was presumed a runaway, and there was very little media attention focused on her disappearance. Hopefully there will now be justice served.

Gay soccer player L.A. Galaxy

Gay soccer player L.A. Galaxy, Robbie Rogers, an openly gay soccer player, may return to active play with the L.A. Galaxy. Rogers retired several months ago ago, but is looking to resume his professional soccer career, reported Yahoo! Sports on April 30.

Rogers has joined the L.A. Galaxy for training exercises and has received a warm welcome from the Galaxy team. Superstar Landon Donovan, a former US national teammate of Rogers', commented that it was good to have Rogers on the field and expressed his hope that he would continue to play with the Galaxy.

Rogers needs to get back into playing form, having not been on the field for the past few months. He is known for versatility and can play either a winger or second striker.

Rogers' ultimate destination in the league, should he truly decide to return, has yet to be determined. The Chicago Fire currently have Rogers' rights; they acquired them from the Columbus Crew, Rogers' former team.

Two Airplanes Clip

Two Airplanes Clip, Two airplanes taxiing while preparing for takeoff at Newark Liberty International Airport on Wednesday night clipped each other, authorities said.

No one was injured when the planes touched around 7:30 p.m. at one of the nation's busiest airports, Federal Aviation Administration officials said. A Scandinavian Airlines plane's left wing clipped the tail of a United Airlines plane while they were on a taxiway.

Scandinavian Airlines Flight 908, bound for Oslo, Norway, was directly behind ExpressJet Flight 4226, destined for Nashville, Tenn., on the taxiway and was turning right to get onto another taxiway when its wing clipped the ExpressJet plane's tail, officials said.

The ExpressJet plane was towed back to the gate, and the Scandinavian Airlines plane taxied back to the gate, where passengers disembarked, New York's WNBC-TV reported.

The accident is being investigated. Scandinavian Airlines, which has hubs in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, didn't immediately respond to telephone messages and emails seeking comment.

ExpressJet Airlines released a statement Wednesday night saying it is "working in coordination with officials to determine a cause." All 31 passengers on the plane were re-accommodated, the airline said.

ExpressJet, which bills itself as the world's largest regional airline, operates as a United Express partner from United's Newark hub. United, which has headquarters in Chicago, is part of United Continental Holdings Inc.

5-year-old shoots sister: Boy kills 2-year-old sister with own rifle

5-year-old shoots sister: Boy kills 2-year-old sister with own rifle, A 5-year-old shot his sister with his own rifle while he was playing outside in Burkesville, Ky. Tuesday afternoon. A family friend told WBKO May 1 that the little boy, Christian Sparks, was not handling the gun before his mother left his sight a few moments.

"She just stepped out for a second," Monica Pepper said about the boy's mother. "She set the mop bucket down and heard the gun go off. The child didn't have the gun in his hand when she was in there with him. She would have never walked outside."

The rifle was reportedly kept in a corner and the family didn't know there was one shell inside it. His father was teaching him how to hunt and he wasn't afraid to handle the weapon. His sister, Caroline Sparks, died later that evening from the gunshot wound in Cumberland.

It's too early to tell if charges will be filed until an investigation is complete, but so far the 2-year-old's death is being ruled as accidental.

In the state of Kentucky, there are no laws prohibiting children from possessing or shooting long-barrel guns.

Airliner in Scotland Narrowly Misses UFO While Landing

Airliner in Scotland Narrowly Misses UFO While Landing, UFOs have been observed in some form since at least as far back as the 19th century. In the 1800s, they manifested themselves as giant airships at a time when man had yet to achieve heavier-than-air flight. Their most recent manifestation began just after the end of World War II, when they assumed the form of flying disks that could travel at speeds of many thousands of miles an hour at a time when we ourselves were just about to break the sound barrier. It seems that, no matter how much technological progress we make, UFOs, whatever they are, have manged to stay several steps ahead of us. But what are they, really? The following is one recent example of an encounter with a UFO, but it is far from the only one.

A passenger aircraft had a narrow miss with an unidentified object over Glasgow, a report has revealed.

The Airbus A320 was making its final approach to Glasgow Airport on 2 December when an object passed about 300ft underneath it. The pilot of the aircraft said the risk of collision with the object, which did not show up on radar, had been "high".

A report by the UK Airprox Board said investigators were unable to establish what the object had been.

The A320 was flying with its landing lights on, in clear conditions and at an altitude of about 4,000ft above the Baillieston area of Glasgow, when the pilot and non-flying pilot saw an object "loom ahead" at a range of about 100m. The object passed directly beneath the aircraft before either of the crew members had time to take avoiding action or had "really registered it".

But they both agreed that it appeared to have been blue and yellow or silver in colour with a small frontal area, but "bigger than a balloon".

The pilot asked the controller at Glasgow Airport if he was "talking to anything in the area" as he had "got quite close" to a blue and yellow aircraft, traveling in the opposite direction, which had passed just below him. The controller stated that he was not talking to anyone else in that area and that nothing was seen on radar.

Search action was taken with no result and the A320 pilot stated his intention to file a report to the agency which investigates near misses.

Air traffic control said they had no trace of any other objects in the area at the time of the incident, although the radar did spot an "unidentified track history" 1.3 nautical miles east of the A320's position 28 seconds earlier.

Once the aircraft had landed, the pilot told the Glasgow Aerodrome Controller: "We seemed to only miss it by a couple of hundred feet, it went directly beneath us. Wherever we were when we called it in it was within about 10 seconds. Couldn't tell what direction it was going but it went right underneath us."

Members were unable to reach a conclusion as to a likely candidate for the conflicting aircraft”

When asked if he thought it may have been a "glider or something like that" the pilot replied: "Well maybe a microlight. It just looked too big for a balloon."

The report concluded: "Investigation of the available surveillance sources was unable to trace any activity matching that described by the A320 pilot. Additionally there was no other information to indicate the presence or otherwise of activity in the area.".The report further said the investigative board had been of the opinion that the object was unlikely to have been a fixed wing aircraft, helicopter or hot air balloon, given that it had not shown up on radar. It was also thought that a meteorological balloon would be radar significant and unlikely to be released in the area.

A glider could not be discounted, the report said, but it was unlikely that one would be operating in the area because of the constrained airspace and the lack of thermal activity because of the low temperature.

Similarly, the board believed that a hang-glider or para-motor would be radar significant and that conditions precluded them, as they did para-gliders.

The report concluded: "Members were unable to reach a conclusion as to a likely candidate for the conflicting aircraft and it was therefore felt that the board had insufficient information to determine a cause or risk".

It should be noted that most UFO observations have tended to have logical explanations, such as a planet like Venus being mistaken for a UFO or something similar, but a small percentage of them have remained unexplained. A trained airline pilot is unlikely to make such a mistake, and furthermore, he would be reluctant to report such an incident unless he was absolutely sure, since pilots have been ridiculed and even lost their licenses for such an action. Even if only one of the thousands of UFO observations should turn out to be valid, that would be enough to prove that they were in fact real, if not intelligent visitors from other worlds..

Ex-Navy SEAL Runs

Ex-Navy SEAL Runs, Fresh off his victory in the Republican primary, former U.S. Navy SEAL Gabriel Gomez is set to run against Democratic challenger Ed Markey for Massachusetts’ vacant seat in the Senate.

Gomez, 47, won a three-way Republican primary Tuesday, placing him in direct contention for the Senate seat vacated in January, when John Kerry became secretary of state, NewsMax reports.

In addition to his distinguished military background, Gomez’s moderate social views and distinguished resume would seem to make him a solid candidate to win June’s special election. However, it will be difficult for Gomez to overcome Massachusetts’ Democratic bias; only 11 percent of the state’s population are registered Republicans, the Associated Press reports.

Still, the state’s Republican leaders aren’t ready to concede defeat just yet.

"As we've shown before in the state, anything can happen in a special election," Republican strategist Ron Kaufman, Massachusetts' national committeeman, told AP.

In the 2010 special election, little-known Republican state Sen. Scott Brown upset a heavily favored Democratic challenger to seize a U.S. Senate seat. The race, which received national attention, effectively amounted to a referendum on President Barack Obama’s health care reform measures, AP reports.

Regardless of its outcome, this summer’s special election is unlikely to draw similar attention. Democrats currently hold a 55-45 majority in the U.S. Senate and will maintain their advantage no matter who wins.

Still, Massachusetts’ Democratic Party leaders aren’t planning on taking the special election for granted.

"We have absolutely learned a lesson. As long as I'm around, we will never leave primary day thinking we're all set," Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman John Walsh said Tuesday.

Markey echoed Walsh’s sentiment in his Democratic primary victory speech.

"This election, ladies and gentleman, will not be easy," Markey said, adding that the state’s Republicans were willing to "move mountains of money to buy this election."

Despite that allegation, Markey holds a significant advantage over Gomez in terms of campaign funding. The veteran congressman led all other candidates in fundraising and has the full support of the state’s Democratic apparatus, according to AP.

Meanwhile, Gomez, a Harvard Business School graduate, has relied largely on his own funds to finance his political ambitions. He has already loaned more than $600,000 to his campaign, according to AP. He also has the support of the Committee for a Better Massachusetts, a so-called super PAC advised by Eric Fehrnstrom, a former top aide to Mitt Romney.

Gomez, who has never run for political office, appears ready to bring a new voice to the Senate race.

"If you're looking for an experienced, slick-talking politician, I'm definitely not your guy," Gomez told supporters Tuesday night. "If you are looking for an independent voice, a new kind of Republican, take a look at our campaign, and I'd welcome your support.”

Former Executive of French Power Company Subsidiary Charged in Connection
A former executive of the U.S. subsidiary of a French power and transportation company was charged in a superseding indictment for his alleged participation in a scheme to pay bribes to foreign government officials, Acting Assistant Attorney General Mythili Raman of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut David B. Fein and Assistant Director in Charge Valerie Parlave of the FBI’s Washington Field Office announced today. ~US DOJ PRESS RELEASE MAY 1, 2013

William Pomponi, at the age of 65, was the former vice president of sales for the Connecticut-based U.S. subsidiary. He has been charged with conspiring to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and to launder money, as well as substantive charges of FCPA and money laundering violations.

On April 16, 2013, charges against Frederic Pierucci and a guilty plea by David Rothschild in connection with the bribery scheme were announced. Pierucci is charged in the superseding indictment with Pomponi. On Nov. 2, 2012, Rothschild pleaded guilty to a criminal information.

It has been charged, the defendants, together with others, paid bribes to officials in Indonesia, including a member of Indonesian Parliament and high-ranking members of Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), the state-owned and state-controlled electricity company in Indonesia, in exchange for assistance in securing a $118 million contract, known as the Tarahan project, for the company and its consortium partner to provide power-related services for the citizens of Indonesia. Collusion and racketeering is apparently the norm for officials such as these. It can only be assumed that actions like these is what sparked the global protests by groups such as Anonymous. In an effort to protect the freedom of information to expose companies or their responsible representatives.

The first consultant retained by the defendants allegedly received hundreds of thousands of dollars into his Maryland bank account to be used to bribe the member of Parliament, according to the charges. The consultant then allegedly transferred the bribe money to a bank account in Indonesia for the benefit of the official. According to court documents, emails between Pomponi, Pierucci, Rothschild and their co-conspirators discuss in detail the use of the first consultant to funnel bribes to the member of Parliament and the influence that the member of Parliament could exert over the Tarahan project.

The conspiracy to commit violations of the FCPA count carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of the greater of $250,000 or twice the value gained or lost. The substantive FCPA counts each carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of the greater of $100,000 or twice the value gained or lost. The conspiracy to commit money laundering count carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of the greater of $500,000 or twice the value of the property involved in the transaction. The substantive money laundering counts each carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of the greater of $500,000 or twice the value of the property involved in the transaction.

Protests can be found all over the internet in protest of the Rothschild family. However, an indictment is merely an accusation, and defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Therefore if anyone should have any information it should be brought forth and presented.

The case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorney Daniel S. Kahn of the Criminal Division’s Fraud Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney David E. Novick of the District of Connecticut. The case is being investigated by FBI agents who are part of the Washington Field Office’s dedicated FCPA squad, with assistance from the Meriden, Conn., Resident Agency of the FBI. Significant assistance was provided by the Criminal Division’s Office of International Affairs, and the department has also worked closely with its law enforcement counterparts in Indonesia at the Komisi Pemberantasan Korupsi (Corruption Eradication Commission) and deeply appreciates KPK’s assistance in this matter. Additional information about the Justice Department’s FCPA enforcement efforts can be found at www.justice.gov/criminal/fraud/fcpa.

Kentucky 2-year-old shot and killed by her brother

Kentucky 2-year-old shot and killed by her brother, According to an article published by CNN on May 1, a 5-year-old Kentucky boy allegedly shot and killed his 2-year-old sister in what authorities say was a tragic accident.

CNN reports that a mother of two small children stepped outside for a few moments, and in that instant her son shot and kill his sister with his “Crickett” rifle.

Caroline Starks, 2, died on Tuesday, April 30 in Burkesville, Kentucky. The shooting has already been ruled an accident according to reports, and the autopsy for little Caroline was scheduled for Wednesday, May. 1.

Kentucky State Police Public Affairs officer, Billy Gregory reportedly had this about the shooting.

"It's just one of those nightmares -- a quick thing that happens when you turn your back."

Gregory also told reporters that it wasn't uncommon for children in the area to be introduced to guns at a young age.

The “Crickett” is small, single-shot .22-caliber rifle that is often made in bright colors. These tiny guns are marked to parents with young children. The “Crickett” slogan is “My first rifle.”

Kidnappers of girl on a Univeristy of Texas campus parking lot held for trial

Kidnappers of girl on a Univeristy of Texas campus parking lot held for trial, Two men who kidnapped a female from a University of Texas-Pan American University campus parking lot last year appeared in court this morning and ordered detained pending trials.

Miguel Angel Navarro, 35, of Hidalgo, and Onan Herrera-Sanchez, 24, of Honduras, went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos.

Judge Ramos ordered them held without bond pending further criminal proceedings.
A third defendant, Milton Leonel Trevino, 20, of Pharr, is also charged with the same offenses and was previously ordered detained.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson said all “three men were charged in a two-count indictment in April 2013 with hostage taking and conspiracy to commit hostage taking.”

A female victim was kidnapped from a UT-Pan American University parking lot at approximately 7:15 p.m. on September 25, 2012.

According to court documents she “was allegedly forced into a vehicle by Herrera-Sanchez. Navarro was driving and Trevino was a passenger, according to the complaint. The victim was allegedly taken and held at Trevino’s home.”

“That evening, the victim’s father received a phone call demanding a ransom in exchange for his daughter’s release,” Magdison announced. “He was allegedly told he had until September 27, 2012, to deliver $100,000 to a location in Penitas.”

Later, in another call, the victim’s father was told his daughter would be killed if they did not “get rid of” the police.

The complaint alleges that on September 26, 2012, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Trevino called the victim’s father and told him that he could pick her up at a residence in Pharr. She was released approximately an hour later.

Each man faces up to life in prison and a possible $250,000 fine on each count, upon conviction.

Third man charged in deadly shooting of sleeping toddler in southwest Atlanta

Third man charged in deadly shooting of sleeping toddler in southwest Atlanta, A third man has been arrested for the fatal shooting of a sleeping 2-year-old girl in November.

But it’s still unclear what motivated the shooting of the toddler and her 1-year-old brother, who survived.

Mr. Marquez Thomas, 23, was booked into the jail Tuesday on charges of murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and reckless conduct, according to booking records.

Ty-Teyanna Motley was killed and her brother, Isaiah, was injured in the Nov. 3, shooting, Atlanta police said.

The children were sleeping in a bed with their grandmother when shots were fired around 1:40 a.m. through the front door of the family’s Polar Rock Place home in southwest Atlanta.

Last Wednesday, police arrested brothers Mr. Montez Thompkins, 21, and Mr. Jeremy Jemell Thompkins, 23, on similar charges for the double shooting.

The infants' grandmother, Ms. Deborah Howard, told police she was awakened by the gunshots and discovered the two children had been shot lying next to her in the foldout sofa bed.

All three remained in the Fulton County Jail Wednesday.

You may not be able to go to Mars, but NASA wants to send your name there

You may not be able to go to Mars, but NASA wants to send your name there, In November, NASA will be launching a new spacecraft to the red planet, Mars. The spacecraft, know as the Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution (MAVEN) spacecraft will carry specialized equipment that will be used to study the upper atmosphere of Mars. It will also carry with it a special DVD.

NASA announced on May 1, that they are inviting the public to submit their names to be a part of this special experience. They are also asking for people to submit a special message, in the form of a three line haiku, if they so desire. All names submitted will be loaded onto the DVD, but only the three best haiku will be sent on the mission. The submission deadline for names and messages is July 1, 2013 and there will be a public vote for the best messages starting on July 15, 2013.

The DVD is a part of the Going to Mars campaign, created for this mission and coordinated at the University of Colorado at Boulder's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (CU/LASP). Stephanie Renfrow, lead for the MAVEN education and public outreach program at CU/LASP said:

"The Going to Mars campaign offers people worldwide a way to make a personal connection to space, space exploration, and science in general and share in our excitement about the MAVEN mission."

Bruce Jakosky, MAVEN principal investigator from CU/LASP added:

"This new campaign is a great opportunity to reach the next generation of explorers and excite them about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). I look forward to sharing our science with the worldwide community as MAVEN begins to piece together what happened to the Red Planet's atmosphere."

MAVEN represents the first time we have sent a spacecraft to study the upper Martian atmosphere. It will investigate and explore in an effort to determine how the loss of atmosphere to space determined the history of water on the surface of Mars.

Speaking of the mission, David Mitchell, MAVEN project manager at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD said:

"The mission will continue NASA's rich history of inspiring and engaging the public in spaceflight in ongoing Mars exploration."

Participants in the program will also be able to print out a special certificate of appreciation that recognizes their involvement in the Going to Mars campaign portion of the MAVEN mission. Those interested in submitting their names can do so by following this link. This is not the first time that NASA has sent names into space. Previous missions carried names to the moon, a comet and to the surface of Mars with the Curiosity rover.

HIV cure 'within months': 15 patients trying new vaccine

HIV cure 'within months': 15 patients trying new vaccine, An HIV cure could be unleashed "within months" according to Danish scientists. On April 30, South Florida Gay News reported that these scientists have tried out their "cure" on human skin cells so now they are trying a vaccine to see if their research has paid off. Fifteen patients are going to be human guinea pigs and will try out the vaccine.

"The challenge will be getting the patients’ immune system to recognize the virus and destroy it. This depends on the strength and sensitivity of individual immune systems," explained Dr. Ole Søgaard, a part of the research team.

If there's an HIV cure "within months" as Danish scientists say, it would obviously be a huge breakthrough. That said, there are plenty of people who don't believe that these scientists have made such an incredible advance in this long-lasting, ongoing study -- but if they did, it would be incredible.

The vaccine might not work on every patient but if it provides a cure or perhaps a way to strengthen the immune system to protect the human body from the virus that would be an amazing advancement that would provide hope for so many people. Of course there are a lot of questions and there will still be a lot of testing and research before this is a worldwide thing.

Will an HIV cure come "within months" as these scientists promise?

Banned Baby Names

Banned Baby Names, New Zealand officials on Wednesday released a list of baby names put forward by parents that were rejected because they were too bizarre or offensive, including “Lucifer” and “Mafia No Fear”.

The list of 77 names reveals one child was set to be called “Anal” before the Department of Internal Affairs vetoed the proposal, while another narrowly avoided being dubbed “.” or full stop.

Other names on the list included “4Real”, “V8”, and “Queen Victoria”.

In some cases, parents appeared to have lost any inspiration for coming up with a moniker for their offspring, wanting to call the latest addition to the family simply “2nd”, “3rd” or “5th”.

The department’s rules forbid any name that might imply a child holds an official title or rank, so “King”, “Duke” and “Princess” were among those that had been turned down most since 2001.

“Justice” was the most popular, having been rejected 62 times, although “Justus” and “Juztice” also failed to gain official approval.

In 2008, New Zealand’s family court ordered that a nine-year-old girl whose parents had called her “Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii” should have her name changed because it was embarrassing and “makes a fool of the child”.

At the time, Judge Rob Murfitt criticised parents who gave their children bizarre names, citing examples such as “Number 16 Bus Shelter”, “Midnight Chardonnay” and twins called “Benson” and “Hedges”.

HIV cure 'within months': Danish scientists say HIV cure is within their grasp

HIV cure 'within months': Danish scientists say HIV cure is within their grasp, Could an HIV cure really be within the grasp of researchers?

According to Danish scientists, the answer is yes. The GA Daily news on May 1 carried the story, originally reported on by The London Telegraph, in which Danish scientists went on record as saying they believe a cure for HIV is coming "within months."

Researchers at Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark are testing a new technique that involves flushing the virus from so-called reservoirs in human DNA. They are conducting clinical trials to test this “novel strategy” in which the HIV virus is literally stripped from human DNA and destroyed permanently by the immune system.

The virus, apart from the DNA, is theoretically destroyed naturally by the body's immune system, The London Telegraph reported.

According to the optimistic scientists, they are expecting results to show that "finding a mass-distributable and affordable cure to HIV is possible.”

Researchers are testing the theory on a minute scale – Human test studies are being done on fifteen patients only at this time.

If the test subjects show to be cured of the disease, the DNA-flushing technique will be tested on a wider scale.

Thirty-three million people worldwide are afflicted by the virus.

Dr. Ole Sogaard, a senior researcher in the department of infectious disease, remains cautious about over-optimism. He warned that the efficacy of the procedure in the human body remained unproven.

Medical Daily quoted him as telling the media:

"The challenge will be getting the patients' immune system to recognize the virus and destroy it. This depends on the strength and sensitivity of individual immune systems," Dr. Sogaard said.

Emergency birth control available over-the-counter to teens 15 years and older

Emergency birth control available over-the-counter to teens 15 years and older, The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ruled new guidelines for consumers to have better access to the emergency contraceptives also known as the morning-after pill, reported Fox News on April 30. The FDA has ruled, females as young as age 15 with proper identification showing proof of age, will be able to buy morning-after pills stocked alongside other contraceptive products on pharmacy shelves.

This ruling will allow teenagers easier accessibility to the emergency birth control pill; those under the age of 15 will require a doctor’s prescription before the cashier can honor the sale.

Yesterday’s FDA mandate came subsequent to a recent decree by U.S. District Judge Edward Korman of New York. Judge Korman decreed the FDA to lift the age limit altogether and make the morning-after pill more easily accessible over-the-counter within 30 days.

Under the former FDA guidelines,17 years of age was the earliest a female may ask the pharmacist for the Plan B One-Step birth control tablets, stored behind the pharmacy counter.

The FDA denies that their Tuesday ruling was based in connection to the district’s court case in New York.

Hezbollah leader pledges not to allow Syria's Assad to fall

Hezbollah leader pledges not to allow Syria's Assad to fall, Not long after the announcement that radical Muslim terrorist groups al-Qaeda in Iraq and Al-Nusra Front are united in their pursuit of toppling President Bashar al-Assad's regime, on Tuesday the head of the Lebanese-based terrorist group Hezbollah declared that his organization and others in the Middle East are friends who will not let Syria fall to the likes of the United States, Israel or Islamic radicals.

Speaking on Hezbollah's TV station Al-Manar, Hezbollah's Hassan Nasrallah said the Syrian rebels are much too weak to bring down the Assad regime and the Ba'ath Party.

The Syrian opposition has long claimed the Iranian-backed Shia movement has been supplying fighters to help Assad, who has always been a loyal Hezbollah backer, according to Israeli counterterrorism source, Myra Toenstein.

He cautioned his listening audience that if a key Shia shrine south of Damascus -- that named after Sayida Zeinab, a granddaughter of Prophet Muhammad -- were damaged, there would be a violent outcome. "If the shrine is destroyed things will get out of control," he said.

Mr Nasrallah assured the world that Hezbollah wished to avoid the Syrian war spreading into Lebanon, but Hezbollah is prepared to repel any and all invaders.

The Assad regime's military forces and the Islamist-led rebels have been fighting in and around Syria's capital of Damascus for several months, with neither side able to declare a decisive victory. More than 70,000 people have been killed since fighting between Syrian forces and rebels erupted in March 2011.

Wildfires strike Los Angeles area and northern CA wine country today

Wildfires strike Los Angeles area and northern CA wine country today, Early season wildfires have broken out across California today, at least three of them so quickly that they have been on national news but have not yet reached the national incident reporting system.

Small but fierce blazes appeared in the northern California wine country in Napa and Sonoma Counties. The official fire season in CalFire’s Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit is starting two weeks early this year because of conditions more like June than the first of May. Sixty-five returning seasonal firefighters will complete training on Friday.

High winds brought down trees onto power lines in the red-flagged, record-dry region. (Only 40 percent of normal precipitation fell last winter.) Brush ignited timber in Knights Valley early this morning near Highway 128, starting the Yellow Fire, which occupied 114 firefighters. Another blaze burned 75 acres and destroyed a barn near Yountville. Two acres of rugged country burned near Calistoga. Steep terrain there meant that responders had to hike in with hoses.

Already dry conditions, warm temperatures, low humidity, and winds gusting up to 50 mph contributed to the power of these fires. They are largely contained by the end of the day.

East of Los Angeles in the San Bernardino Mountains, a fast-growing brush fire lit up 1,500 acres (from zero) in just several hours this afternoon. According to Robert J. Lopez of the Los Angeles Times, this wildfire is still blazing 100% out of control as the sun sets in western skies. Reports say that five hundred people living near Banning have been evacuated so far. The National Weather Service has issued red-flag warnings for the area, and smoke advisories are in effect until further notice. People with respiratory diseases are on alert, some taking a long weekend elsewhere. Aggravated asthma and headaches are being reported. Ash is falling as far as Redlands, approximately 20 miles away.

More than 400 firefighters have been battling the Summit fire. Six helicopters and six aerial tankers have made repeated water and fire-retardant drops on walls of flame fueled by burning brush and chaparral on the mountainsides. Dry easterly winds of 30 mph have raked the flames, and the relative humidity there is only 12%. High risk and very dry conditions are forecast for the next seven days from the Oklahoma panhandle and west Texas through New Mexico, southern Colorado, Arizona, and California, where coastal areas are at especially high risk.

The National Interagency Fire Center in Boise issued its first seasonal Fire Weather and Fire Danger Outlooks today.

Seven federal and state agencies work together at the NIFC to coordinate and support wildland fire and disaster operations: the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Land Management, Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, National Association of State Foresters, National Weather Service, U.S. Fire Administration, and Aviation Management Directorate.

Temperatures are expected to be three to six degrees above normal through May in the areas burning today. Severe drought continues to dry both live and dead brush and fuelwood west of the Rockies, with the exception of California's Great Basin. The seasonal wildfire risks are expected to grow and continue significantly higher than normal through August.

High school student blows up things at school: Gets expelled then arrested

High school student blows up things at school: Gets expelled then arrested, Kids are always curious about things. Apparently, a Florida high school student's curiosity got the best of her by getting her expelled and arrested, according to a report by BoingBoing on May 1. This Florida student was blowing things up for Science because she was curious what toilet bowl cleaner mixed with aluminum foil would do. However, because she did this on school grounds, she was first expelled and then arrested.

No one was hurt during the explosion but since it happened at school, the student may be facing charges. The school is also going as far as supporting her being charged as an adult for a felony.

This student was otherwise a good student with an excellent track record and she was well-behaved. Scientists are talking about this incident on Twitter and reminiscing about everything they used to blow up when they were kids. They are using the hashtag #KieraWilmot, this is the name of the student who was blowing things up.

What do you think about this? Do you think the school went too far with going as far as trying to charge her as an adult?

Boston Marathon: Suspect's friends charged with coverup

Boston Marathon: Suspect's friends charged with coverup, A May 1 report from NBC News, claims that three men who are allegedly friends of Boston bombing suspect, 19-year-old, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are accused of various crimes related to hiding evidence from authorities.

NBC News reports that Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev have both been charged with conspiring to obstruct justice. A third man, Robel Phillipos was also charged with making false statements to law enforcement officers.

The three friends reportedly removed evidence from Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's dorm room after the April 15 bomb attacks during the Boston Marathon. The evidence removed was reportedly a backpack full of empty fireworks tubes.

Officials already suspected that gunpowder from mortar kits purchased by 26-year-old, Tamerlan Tsarnaev from a well-known fireworks manufacture in February 2013, was used in the bombs that went off during the attacks near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. This new evidence seems to support that theory.

Azamat Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev were allegedly responsible for giving investigators a tip that had FBI agents searching a Massachusetts landfill for two days. Initial reports were that the agents were looking for a laptop, but now it seems that may not have been the case.

Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in an April 18 shootout with police. His brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is recovering from his injuries in a federal medical center.

Why was Skylar Neese murdered by best friend?

Why was Skylar Neese murdered by best friend?, On May 1, 2013 the Skylar Neese story produced a horrific twist when one of the teen's best friends admitted to her gruesome murder. Sixteen-year-old Rachel Shoaf admitted to stabbing the teen to death the very night she vanished. This is certainly a shocking update to an already shocking and heartbreaking case. Two teens have reportedly been charged in the murder after and Shoaf pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing the girl after she sneaked out of her parents' home in July of 2012. Read the official court documents that were released today here.

Skylar Neese was originally considered a runaway, though from the beginning speculation leaned toward foul play. It was suspicious from the beginning that she only sneaked out to spend time with friends -- never to return. I even speculated once that she could have been abducted while on the way back home from meeting with her friends. It is truly a shock to nearly everyone familiar with this case that another teenage girl has confessed to her fatal stabbing murder. By the time Skylar's body was found she was badly decomposed -- a voiceless murder victim just discarded in the wilderness. Does Rachel Shoaf realize the reality of what's been done?

What would drive a teenage girl to stab one of her best friends fatally? And what kind of person can dump a body in a wooded area and pretend like nothing ever happened? These beautiful young ladies had promising lives ahead of them, but instead both of their lives are ruined due to something that happened on one night last year. What was it that led to the fatal stabbing of Skylar Neese? Those details will hopefully come out soon.

It's not terribly often that teenage girls murder, but when they do it is often done in groups of more than one. That is why it's not very surprising that two people have been charged in Skylar's death. Murderers like Christa Pike and Alyssa Bustamante were teens when they claimed the lives of their young female victims. So there are certainly cases of homicide of this nature in history. In fact, this behavior is so common that there are statistics to go with it.

More information in the Skylar Neese case won't be released for the time being due to the sensitive nature of the case and the age of the juvenile in custody (aside from Rachel Shoaf). So this may shape up to be one of those high profile cases that grip the media. Her loved ones must be horrified.

Paul Ryan gay adoption: Why former GOP VP candidate supports gay adoption

Paul Ryan gay adoption: Why former GOP VP candidate supports gay adoption, Congressman Paul Ryan now supports gay adoption, the Christian Science Monitor reported on Wednesday.

Paul Ryan “Comes Out” in support of gay adoption

Ryan first announced his support of gay adoption on Monday during a town hall meeting in Wisconsin, his home state. Ryan told those gathered that he changed his mind on gay adoption. He noted that in 1999 or 2000 he had voted against allowing adoptions by same-sex couples in Washington, DC, but he said he would vote in support of gay adoptions if he had to vote on the issue today.

“I do believe that if there are children who are orphans who do not have a loving person or couple – I think if a person wants to love and raise a child, they ought to be able to do that. Period. I would vote that way. I do believe marriage is between a man and a woman; we just respectfully disagree on that issue,” Ryan said.

The former vice presidential candidate told a TV reporter later that he changed his mind on the gay adoption issue years ago, but he has never talked about it publicly. He did not say why he changed his mind on gay adoptions.

What do you think of Congressman Paul Ryan’s position on gay adoptions? Leave your comments in Facebook below.

Several observances of National Day of Prayer tomorrow in Dearborn, Downriver

Several observances of National Day of Prayer tomorrow in Dearborn, Downriver, A couple of churches in Dearborn are inviting people to come in Thursday to join their National Day of Prayer observances. Two city halls in nearby Downriver communities will also be hosting noon programs tomorrow as part of the 62nd annual event observed in communities nationwide.

“Christians in Dearborn are invited to gather together with us as we lift up the name of Jesus and pray for God's leading in our City and Nation,” Fairlane Alliance Church offered in announcing its National Day of Prayer observance. The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the church located on 905 Mason Street in Dearborn.

Another church in Dearborn has opened its chapel for private prayer Thursday. People are invited to use the chapel from 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church of Dearborn, 600 N. Brady.

A National Day of Prayer Rally will be held from noon-1 p.m. in the Taylor City Hall Plaza, 23555 Goddard Road. Ministerial pastors from the Taylor area will be offering a procession of prayers of about three to four minutes each.

Their topics will range from offering supplications for officials of the city, state and nation; to neighborhoods and issues of morals and marriage. Also participating in the prayers will be the assistant superintendent of Taylor School District, Teresa Winnie; as well as Jeremy Waechter of the Taylor Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force, who will be offering prayer for substance abuse and broken families.

The event normally will read any presidential proclamation provided for that year's observance, and start with the police honor guard and singing of the National Anthem and “God Bless America.” Pastor Philip will follow by sharing remarks on praying for America.

The prayers will conclude with the song “God of the City.” Jack Smith and Craig Brown will be doing the music for the program, and city officials will also be offering greetings. There will also be recognition of city employees.

The sponsoring New Hope Assembly of God noted that it already holds regular prayer sessions from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, because “We believe in God's intervention.”

Another city hall noon ceremony will be held May 2 in River Rouge. The short program, “calling all Downriver Detroiters to gather and pray for our nation” at the River Rouge City Hall, 10600 W. Jefferson Ave, is planned to run from a half hour to 45 minutes.

Gerald D. Caldwell, president of the Downriver Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance which is sponsoring the National Day of Prayer Observance, said various speakers will offer prayers on the family, unity, community, nation and the churches. A reverend of St. John African Methodist Episcopal Church, Caldwell said he has been president of the Alliance for four years, which has 30 active members among Downriver chruches in southwest Detroit, Ecorse and River Rouge.

In 1952, a joint resolution of Congress and signed by President Truman declared an annual, national day of prayer. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the first Thursday of May as the National Day of Prayer. Each year, the President signs a proclamation (and governors of the states and U.S. territories sign similar proclamations) encouraging all Americans to pray on that day.

The first mention of such a day in America's history dates back to 1775 and the Continental Congress, which called on Americans to spend the day in fasting and meditation. Presidents George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Andrew Jackson, and Abraham Lincoln would subsequently issue calls to prayer, the last calling for a day of “humiliation, fasting, and prayer” in 1863.

C.J. Watson Text Messages

C.J. Watson Text Messages, According to a Las Vegas police report obtained by Yahoo!, Floyd Mayweather's ex-girlfriend told police that text messages between her and current Nets guard C.J. Watson prompted the champion boxer to threaten their lives and beat her in 2010.

Watson, a Las Vegas native who was playing with the Bulls at the time, left practice Wednesday without speaking to the media.

The woman who was allegedly beaten, Josie Harris, said that she woke up one morning to see Mayweather holding her phone, yelling at her about text messages from Watson.

“Are you having sex with C.J.,” Mayweather reportedly shouted at Harris. Harris, who has three children with Mayweather, responded that she was seeing Watson and the fighter responded by punching her in the back of the head, according to the police report.

Mayweather pleaded guilty to a domestic violence charge and was sentenced to 90 days in prison. He served two months in jail and later reconciled with Harris.

"All I heard is, 'Who is C.J. Watson, C.J. Watson the basketball player?' Harris said in the police report. "From there it was just … bad. I was powerless. He was holding me down. I couldn't fight back. The kids were screaming and crying, 'You're hurting my Mom.' "

Harris told police that Mayweather yelled, "I'm going to kill you and the man you are messing around with. I'm going to have you both disappear."

Watson has been a central figure in the series against the Bulls, missing a potential game-tying shot at the buzzer of Game 3 and scuffling with Nate Robinson in Game 4 before missing a critical dunk.

No Steve Carell

No Steve Carell, Award-winning comedy "The Office" is hoping to get an extra-long episode for the series finale later this month, but Steve Carell's bumbling office manager Michael Scott won't be joining the farewell party, the producer of the TV comedy said on Wednesday.

Greg Daniels, executive producer of the U.S. mockumentary workplace comedy, said the May 16 finale will be patterned after the original British version, in which the characters reunited after becoming famous as reality TV stars.

"After attempting to beat that (British) ending in a number of different ways, we ended up doing something very similar," Daniels told reporters on a conference call, adding that he was hoping to stretch out the finale beyond its scheduled one-hour running time.

"We are trying to get more time and the network (NBC) is being very creative about scraping some more time without us having to start the finale at a weird time that will cause half the audience to miss the first 10 minutes.

"We are still hopeful of getting slightly more than one hour," he said.

The U.S. version of "The Office," which was originated by British comedian Ricky Gervais, is coming to an end after eight years. Since the departure of Carell in 2011, audiences have fallen from around 8 million at the show's height in 2007-8 to about 5 million this year.

"I think Steve felt, and I agree, that the 'Goodbye, Michael' episode was his goodbye and he didn't want to overshadow the ending that all the other characters deserved," said Daniel.

Recent episodes of the four-time Emmy Award winning comedy have seen friction in the rosy relationship of popular married couple Jim and Pam Halpert, played by John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer.

Daniels declined to give any spoilers but said suggested their future would be largely resolved before the finale.

"My hope is that people will treat the last several episodes as the finale and not force us to do everything in the last episode.

"We didn't want there to be such anxiety over Jim and Pam that you could think of nothing else in the last episode," he said.

Storage Wars Drops 3

Storage Wars Drops 3, Popular A&E reality show “Storage Wars” has dropped three more cast members in the wake of the lawsuit filed by Dave Hester, one of the buyers during the show’s first three seasons, against the A&E network.

RadarOnline.com reported that “at least three familiar faces have now been cut back” on the program. They include Darrell Sheets as well as auctioneers Dan and Laura Dotson.

“They lived up to Darrell’s contract, but then shot more episodes that weren’t covered by his contract and kept him out of those,” a source told Radar. “He was not happy to say the least.”

The source added that with the cutting of Sheets, it “seems as if they are going after some of the higher paid cast members and meanwhile they are expanding the franchise.”

The source also said that the Dotsons did not appreciate the move.

“They make good money and they need the money,” a source said. “Suddenly the show just told them, ‘We don’t need you for this episode.’ And then it happened again.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hester alleged that the bidding series was faked in his lawsuit. He also said he was fired for complaining about it.

“I can say Dave (Hester) still comes to our auctions, even though there’s animosity that he’s not on the show. If it was rigged, why would he show up?” Laura Dotson told the Reporter in April.

,Dan Dotson added: “Hester is in a contractual dispute with A&E. He’s spewing stuff like I’m doing bid rigging and that’s the furthest thing from the truth… Every locker I’ve sold on Storage Wars is a licensed, legitimate unit.”

In March, Judge Michael Johnson of Los Angeles Superior Court sided with A&E on several points during the legal proceedings, throwing out Unfair Business Practices part of the suit, reported Reuters.

HIV cure 'Within Months'

HIV cure 'Within Months', A breakthrough in the search for a cure for HIV will come ''within months'', researchers believe.

Danish scientists are expecting results showing that it will be possible to find a cure that is both affordable and can be provided to a large number of people.

They are running clinical trials to test a ''novel strategy'' in which the HIV virus, which causes AIDS, is stripped from human DNA and destroyed by the immune system.

It has already been found to work in laboratory tests and the scientists are now running human trials.

The technique involves releasing the HIV virus from ''reservoirs'' it forms in DNA cells, bringing it to the surface of the cells. Once it comes to the surface, the body's immune system can kill the virus through being boosted by a ''vaccine''.

In vitro studies - those that use human cells in a laboratory - of the new technique proved so successful that in January the Danish Research Council awarded the team 12 million kroner ($2 million) to pursue clinical trials with human subjects.

Ole Sogaard, a senior researcher at the Aarhus University Hospital in Denmark who is leading the study, said: ''I am almost certain we will be successful in releasing the reservoirs of HIV.

''The challenge will be getting the immune system to recognise the virus and destroy it. This depends on the strength and sensitivity of individual immune systems.''

Fifteen patients are taking part in the trials, and if they are found to have been cured of HIV, the process will be tested on a wider scale.

The technique uses drugs called HDAC inhibitors, more commonly employed in treating cancer.

It is also being researched in Britain, but studies have not yet moved on to the clinical trial stage.

Farrah Abraham: Teen Mom happy with sex tape sale

Farrah Abraham: Teen Mom happy with sex tape sale, Abraham,20, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol back in March in Omaha, Nebraska.  Farrah is in denial about the DUI saying she was sick and coughing and was short of breath, causing her to fail a breathalyzer test. The Teen Mom claims she was out with her sister on St.

Patrick’s Day, had no plans on drinking because she was sick, and ended up driving to ensure she and her sister were safe. Plans or no plans, her blood alcohol level was over the legal limit.

Less than a month later and now word of a sex tape with Farrah and a male partner, possibly her ex-boyfriend, were taped having sex for 30 minutes.

TMZ is reporting the person selling the tape has already shown it to some of the biggest XXX companies and is looking to make a deal.

Farrah has clearly hit rock bottom, spiraling out of control.

Abraham has a four-year old daughter.

Cannibalism at Jamestown

Cannibalism at Jamestown, Colonists Ate a 14-Year-Old Girl's Brain! Archaeologists announced today the "first solid evidence" that some 17th-century American colonists consumed one another.

"So great was our famine, that a savage we slew and buried, the poorer sort took him up again and eat him," Captain John Smith wrote in 1624 of the scene in Jamestown, Virginia. He continued, "One amongst the rest did kill his wife, powdered her, and had eaten part of her before it was known, for which he was executed, as he well deserved. Now whether she was better roasted, boiled or carbonado'd, I know not, but of such a dish as powdered wife I never heard of."

Too soon, Captain John Smith. Too soon. It would've also been too soon if Doug Owsley had said the same today, when the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History's Division Head for Physical Anthropology spoke at a press conference in Washington, D.C. There he and colleagues announced what they call the first clear physical evidence that there was cannibalism at the Jamestown colony. Their announcement seems to confirm written accounts like that of Captain Smith, which appeared similarly in the minutes of Virginia's General Assembly in the same year.

The findings involve the cranium and mandible among other bones of what Owsley and colleagues determined to have been a 14-year-old girl. They call her Jane.

The anthropologists date the act to the winter of 1609-10, part of the "Starving Time," during which conditions were abominable. There was dissent, drought, famine, and the colony was under attack from the aforementioned "savages" of the Powhatan confederation. Only 20 percent of the colonists survived that winter.

Owsley, a forensic specialist, described the scene of Jane's butchering in unsettling detail:

The chops to the forehead are very tentative, very incomplete ... The person is truly figuring it out as they go. ... Then, the body was turned over, and there were four strikes to the back of the head, one of which was the strongest and split the skull in half. A penetrating wound was then made to the left temple, probably by a single-sided knife, which was used to pry open the head and remove the brain.
They estimate that Jane was buried and subsequently exhumed prior to cannibalization.

The bones were found in a cellar, among those of dogs and squirrels. Of course, as Owsley concluded, "We didn't see anybody eat this flesh. But ... given these bones [were] in a trash pit, all cut and chopped up, it's clear that this body was dismembered for consumption."

Lead Jamestown archaeologist William Kelso added, "We don't believe Jane was a lone case."

Fatal bear mauling

Fatal bear mauling, In November 2012, a Montana animal trainer was mauled and killed by a bear while cleaning its cage. 24-year-old Benjamin Cloutier was an animal trainer at Animals of Montana, which trains animals for photography, TV, and Movies.

Now, the U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is issuing fines against Animals of Montana in connection with the incident. In particular, the business has been cited for “allowing employees to have unrestricted, direct contact with grizzly bears.” OSHA has also cited Animals of Montana for a violation related to failing “to report an occupational fatality within eight hours.” The citations carry $9,000 in fines.

“This is a tragedy that could have – and should have – been prevented,” said Jeff Funke, OSHA’s Billings-area director. “The use of a secondary holding area while cleaning cages is standard practice when working with animals capable of being dangerous to workers responsible for their care.”

According to its website, Animals of Montana prides itself in over 20 years of experience raising and training animals. The Facebook post below shows the bear, named Griz, that was responsible for the attack on Cloutier. Griz was put down immediately following the incident.

Ronda Rousey ESPN

Ronda Rousey ESPN, Rousey is one of four athletes chosen to grace the cover of the upcoming issue of ESPN The Magazine. NBA great Blake Griffin, baseball star Bryce Harper, and Washington Redskins quarterback, Robert Griffin III, will also appear.

The star judoka took to social networking platforms to promote the coming issue she's featured on.

"Don't forget to pick up the 15th anniversary issue of ESPN coming soon," wrote Rousey to her fans.

So what exactly does the appearance mean for Rousey and women's MMA in general?

Rousey continues to be a breakout star for the sport and for the UFC, and it's excellent to see the continued exposure from a mainstream outlet such as ESPN.

Last time around, Rousey was asked to pose artistically nude to help sell some extra copies of ESPN the Magazine's "Body Issue." This time, they can focus on her personality and athleticism inside the cage.

Just having her presented as on par with athletes from three of the "major" sports in the U.S. is a huge statement when it comes to the progress of women's MMA.

Rousey continues to be a crossover star, and that's exactly what the UFC needs at a time when legends are aging and retirement at a rapid pace.

Rousey, an Olympian who will soon coach opposite Cat Zingano on "The Ultimate Fighter 18," can't seem to stay out of the headlines, even when she doesn't have a fight coming up.

Her fight against Zingano is still months away, but Rousey is still all over the news due to her adorable personality and striking good looks.

Rousey's appearance on "TUF 18" marks the reality show's debut on FOX Sports 1. The star judoka will then fight Zingano in a season-ending UFC title fight at the end of the calendar year.

Rousey was also one of a few athletes featured on the cover of an "ESPN The Magazine" Body Issue this past year, but she draws the line at artistic nudity.

"I'd say, ‘No.' No one should be able to see my cash and prizes for $5, okay? I don't care how much money they gave me," Rousey said of the possibility of posing for Playboy. "I don't really see myself as a sex symbol because ever since people have started calling me a sex symbol, I haven't had a lot of sex in my life."

Rousey recently posed artistically nude for ESPN the Magazine's Body Issue, so there's not a huge difference between that and posing for Playboy.

However, Rousey wants to present herself in a classy manner and not give anyone the wrong impression.

"Like, it's just, it's not really working out great for me," Rousey said. "But, yeah, people bring that up all the time. I'm like, ‘Look, you're right. I probably get more attention fighting because of how I look. But if I didn't know how to fight and I just looked the way I did, no one would know who I am.'"

Rousey's upcoming ESPN the Magazine cover shoot will play it straight, without dipping into her sexy side. She will not be artistically nude this time around.

Miley Cyrus V

Miley Cyrus V, Miley Cyrus talks about it to Elle UK. She has strong feelings about nudity. "A star is someone who doesn't have to take her clothes off to be sexy because you naturally have star power," Miley, 20, says. "I don't want to be a glorified model. They just talk on stage and it's all about their clothes - or lack of clothes." Ouch!

Miley dismisses reports that her four-year romance (she was, like, 16 when it began) with Liam Hemsworth, 23, is over.

"We have a house together and dogs. It just seems right to be wearing this ring and to be committed," the Hannah Montana survivor says of her engagement to the older Hunger Games hunk. "But we keep our relationship low-key and don't talk about it anymore."

The couple, who have two daughters, Keeley, 10, and Kendyl, 5, broke up seven months after Jason admitted he was inappropriate with American Idol contestant Brittany Kerr.

RGIII cryptic tweets

RGIII cryptic tweets, Robert Griffin III is upset… about something. Maybe. RGIII sent out a series of cryptic tweets last night but it’s unclear what set off the Washington Redskins quarterback.

Griffin never gives an exact reason for his tweets but that hasn’t stopped people from speculating. Some believe that RGIII’s cryptic tweets were about Jason Collins and the future of gays in the NFL. Others have speculated that Griffin may have been talking about the Washington Redskins “racist name” and the recent attempt to have it changed.

It’s unclear what Griffin was talking about during his Twitter rant but that doesn’t change his message.

The Redskins quarterback writes on Twitter: “In a land of freedom we are held hostage by the tyranny of political correctness.”

He later adds: “If we speak..we say it the wrong way If we do not speak we are cowards….”

What do you think of RGIII’s cryptic tweets? Do you think he was talking about Jason Collins? The Washington Redskins name change?

Griffin has never been shy about his opinion and has used Twitter before to vent his frustrations before.

Earlier this month, the young quarterback defended his former classmate Brittney Griner when the Baylor Bears lost in the NCAA tournament.

What do you think Robert Griffin is talking about? Maybe we shouldn’t over analyze the message. The Redskins quarterback took to Twitter again this morning saying that the media was bound to twist his words and give them some unrelated meaning.

Usain Bolt out

Usain Bolt out, Olympic sprinter injures hamstring, will miss weekend event. News has come that Usain Bolt is out of an upcoming Jamaican meet due to an injury. According to USA Today on April 30, the Olympic star has a slight hamstring strain.

The Jamaican meet is Saturday and he was set to run in the 200 meter event, but felt that his hamstring injury would not allow him to compete up to his abilities. He announced his withdrawal from the event on his personal website.

The fact that Usain Bolt was out was explained as a disappointment for the track star, because of how much he loves running in front of his home crowd. He also mentioned that it was only a "Grade 1" strain and he should be okay and back in action very soon.

The injury began to bother Bolt last weekend while training.

Usain Bolt is the first man to ever hold both the 100 meter and 200 meter world records since measurements became mandatory in 1977. He is also the reigning Olympics champion in both events and has won six gold medals for sprinting, the first person to ever do so. The five-time world champion opened his season with a 150-meter race in Rio de Janeiro, where he won easily in 14.42 seconds.

With Usain Bolt out, the event on Saturday is really anyone's game.

Deanna Durbin dies, Hollywood film star, dies at 91

Deanna Durbin dies, Hollywood film star, dies at 91, one of Hollywood's biggest box-office stars in the 1930s and early '40s, has died aged 91.

Her son, Peter H David, made the announcement in a newsletter to her fans, saying she died "a few days ago".

In 1947 she was the highest-paid star in the United States. But she retired from the business the following year when she was just 27.

Durbin made her film debut in the 1936 MGM short Every Sunday, in which she appeared alongside Judy Garland.

Born Edna Mae Durbin in Winnipeg, Canada in 1921, Durbin was nurtured and promoted by producer Joe Pasternak.

Her first movie for the Universal studios, Three Smart Girls, was nominated for the best picture Oscar in 1937.

Durbin auditioned for the part of Snow White in 1936. But Walt Disney turned her down, saying her 15-year-old voice was too mature for the part.

In 1939, Durbin and fellow teen star Mickey Rooney were presented with Juvenile Academy Awards for their "significant contribution in bringing to the screen the spirit and personification of youth."

The success of her films, which reportedly saved Universal from bankruptcy in the late 1930s, was estimated to account for 17% of the studio's revenue during the decade.

In 1946 Durbin's salary of $323,477 made her the second highest-paid woman in America, just behind Bette Davis.

Winston Churchill watched her films before they were released to the general public in the UK, while Anne Frank hung a picture of Durbin on the wall of the attic in which she and her family hid from the Nazis.

In 1949, after 21 films and at the height of her worldwide fame, Durbin quit the movie business and retired to a village in France.

She shunned the spotlight with her third husband, the film director Charles David, who died in 1999.

Durbin rarely gave interviews but did send reporters a letter in 1958 in which she said she was "never happy making pictures".

"The character I was forced into had little or nothing in common with myself - or with other youth of my generation, for that matter."
