10 band members die in crash: Mexican band's tour bus slammed head on, Ten Mexican band members have died in a horrific head-on collision.
A police official says the driver of the vehicle that was carrying the band "La Reyna de Monterrey" dozed off Saturday morning, causing the vehicle to strike the side of a truck, then cross over into the other lane and crash head on with a tractor-trailer.
According to Fox News Latino on April 27, at least ten members of the popular Mexican music group were killed and five others were injured in the traffic accident in northern Mexico, authorities said.
The official said the impact was so powerful that many band members were thrown from their tour vehicle onto the highway. The road connects Nuevo Laredo and Monterrey.
The musicians were returning to Monterrey after giving a concert in a Texas city, the daily El Norte reported, citing federal highway police.
La Reyna de Monterrey played the musical genre known as Banda music. It had played in a bar in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas on Friday night.
Banda is a brass-based form of traditional music, very similar to polka or traditional German and Polish music.
Bandas play a “big band” sound in a wide variety of songs, including rancheras, corridos, cumbias, baladas, and boleros, but they also play modern Mexican pop, rock and cumbias.
