Michael Jordan marries: Basketball legend weds in a whopper of a wedding, April 27 was an important date for Michel Jordan. More than a year after becoming engaged in December 2011, Jordan married fiancée and former model Yvette Prieto, his girlfriend of five years.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported April 27 that after five years of dating, the 50-year-old former NBA star Michael Jordan, and his model-fiancée, the 35-year-old Yvette Prieto, made it official with a whopper of a wedding in Palm Beach, Fla., on Saturday.
About 500 people arriving by tour buses piled into an Episcopal church called Bethesda-by-the Sea, where Donald Trump was married to Melania in 2005.
Jordan then invited another 1,500 to join them for the reception at the Bears Club, a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course community in Jupiter, Fla., where Jordan recently built his 38,000-square-foot home.
While 2,000 combined guests does not exactly suggest a modest affair, the full size of this monstrous event cannot be communicated by words.
“They’ve been planning for months and months,” People.com quoted a source as saying. “He wanted to give Yvette everything she’s ever wanted.”
A 40,000 square foot tent was set up to accommodate all the A-list guests.
Gossip Extra also reported that Usher serenaded the NBA legend and his new wife under that ginormous tent that crews pitched.
Among those invited included relatives, friends and business associates of Jordan’s, including basketball stars, such as the former New York Knicks big man Patrick Ewing and former Chicago Bulls Scottie Pippen, Ron Harper and Toni Kukoc, as well as NBA TV announcer Ahmad Rashad.
Jordan and his first wife, Juanita Vanoy Jordan, divorced in 2006 after 17 years of marriage. They have three children: sons Jeffrey Jordan, who’s 24, and Marcus Jordan, 22, and a daughter, Jasmine Jordan, 19.
