Honda recall: 46,000 Fit Sports recalled over problem with stability

Honda recall: 46,000 Fit Sports recalled over problem with stability, Honda has issued a recall to approximately 46,000 owners of their Fit Sport, citing a problem with the electronic stability control system.

ABC News carried the April 27 Associated Press report, which said the subcompact four-door hatchback recall affects U.S and Canadian Fit owners.

The recall is for cars from the 2012 and 2013 model years. Honda says the stability control system, which improves the safety of a vehicle's stability by detecting and reducing loss of traction, can allow the Fit to lean too far before it applies the brakes to prevent a crash.

The defect was discovered in government testing of models with a particular type of tires, although the report did not cite which tire types were at risk. According to Honda, there has not been any accidents reported because of the problem.

Honda dealers will update the system's software free of charge. Owners will be notified starting in mid-May.
