500 cells unlock

500 cells unlock, When cell doors mysteriously unlock, one would think that prisoners would attempt to get out of there as soon as possible. That wasn't the case the this weekend as reported by the Daily Mail on Sunday, April 28, 2013, when a jail in Maryland saw 500 cells unlock mysteriously.

It was confirmed that at around 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, a computer glitch at the Montgomery County Jail caused 500 cell doors to unlock and open. Strangely enough, none of the inmates in the prison attempted to get out and escape.

Arthur Wallenstein, director of the county's Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, said that no inmates tried to escape when the 500 cells unlocked. The cell locks were reset within an hour.

Making matters worse for the Maryland prison is that the cell door locks had disengaged earlier in the week on Tuesday.

Officials are currently trying to figure out the source of the problem in the electronic system. All of the doors and locks are guided by a computer programs and the correctional officers.

When the 500 cells unlocked, close to 20 police vehicles were called to the perimeter of the prison. This was done as a safety precaution and to make sure that all inmates stayed where they are supposed to be.
