Hailey Dunn case: Man who found remains of Texas cheerleader speaks out

Hailey Dunn case: Man who found remains of Texas cheerleader speaks out, On April 28, 2013, Curtis Lloyd, the man who stumbled upon the remains of missing Texas school cheerleader Hailey Dunn, spoke out about that fateful day, according to News West 9.

Lloyd was searching for fossils near Lake J.B. Thomas in Scurry County on March 16 when he came upon the young girl’s body.

“To think that someone could do that to a beautiful child, it just breaks my heart… It was a shock, it really was. When you first find it, your personal feelings get involved,” said Lloyd.

He told News West 9 that a co-worker informed him on Friday that the remains he discovered had been identified as belonging to Hailey, 13.

Lloyd noted that he had a feeling the remains belonged to the school cheerleader because of an article of clothing he found, but didn’t want to speak about his notion before it had been official confirmed by authorities.

“I couldn’t go on TV… and say that and take a chance that I might hurt a family’s feelings and be wrong,” he stated.

Lloyd also expressed his sadness for her friends and family, but is glad Hailey can finally be put to rest, saying he hopes law enforcement will “hopefully catch the people who did it.”

Hailey was last seen on December 27, 2010. According to police, her mother’s live-in boyfriend, Shawn Adkins claims the girl told him she was walking a short distance to her father’s home and then over to a friend’s to spend the night. She never arrived at either location. Her mother, Billie Dunn, reported her missing on December 28.

Adkins has been named the only suspect in the case by police and reports at the time indicated Dunn asked him to move out of the home just days after Hailey vanished. Adkins claims he had nothing to do with Hailey's disappearance.

In early 2011, ReporterNews.com reported a Dell computer was taken from the home of Adkin’s mother in Big Spring. It contained “approximately 108,498 pictures depicting deviant acts.” A memory stick containing “320 images and videos of a pornographic nature,” was found in the master bedroom of the Dunn residence in Colorado City during the investigation.

Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs said both the computer and memory stick had images depicting bestiality and child pornography. He noted charges could be filed regarding the find. “We will have to get with the district attorney in Howard County to see if criminal charges are warranted,” Toombs said at the time.

Anyone with information regarding Hailey’s case is urged to call the Colorado City Police Dept. at 325-728-5294.
