CBS unveils 2013 Tony Award nominations, On April 30, the nominees for the 2013 Tony Awards were revealed. Tom Hanks scored a Leading Actor nomination for his role in “Lucky Guy” and Cyndi Lauper received a nod for Best Original Score for “Kinky Boots,” a homegrown musical made from a book by Harvey Fiersten. The play received the most nominations in 2013, beating out even critically acclaimed “Matilda The Musical.” Revivals of “Pippin,” “Golden Boy,” and “Cinderella” also got some Tony love with multiple nominations.

For Leading Actress, 2013 Tony Award nominations went to Laurie Metcalf for “The Other Place,” Amy Morton for “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,” Kristine Nielsen for “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” Holland Taylor for “Ann,” and Cicely Tyson for “The Trip to Bountiful.”
“The Assembled Parties,” “Lucky Guy,” “The Testament of Mary,” and “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” all received nominations for Best Play. For Best Musical, “Bring It On: The Musical,” “A Christmas Story: The Musical,” “Kinky Boots” and “Matilda The Musical” were all nominated.
Producers also recently announced that they plan to get “Rocky” up and running by February at New York’s Winter Garden Theatre. The 2013 Tony Awards airs live at on Sunday, June 9 on CBS.
