Loch ness monster insurance, Jacobite Cruises, the company that ferries more than 100,000 sightseers to Loch Ness each year, has made the most fiscally sharp decision of its business life: purchasing more than $1.5 million in monster-collision insurance for its fleet.
The company's owner, Freda Newton, allowed that "I don't know what the odds of this actually happening might be, but this is Loch Ness, and how silly would we look if it did and we weren't covered for it?" Of course, low odds or not, the expenditure is a drop in the bucket of the area's Nessie-related business: Inverness typically sees more than $93 million a year in tourist revenue
