Boston Marathon: Tsarnaev family received $100,000 in taxpayer funded benefits, Boston Marathon bombing suspects, 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev along with their family, reportedly received nearly $100,000 in government aid according to an April 30 article published by CBS News.
CBS News reports that the family received $100,000 in taxpayer funded benefits from 2002 to 2012. The aid they allegedly received came in the forms of food stamps, Section 8 housing, heating fuel assistance, tuition, and more.
The Tsarnaev brothers are accused of bombing spectators who were attending the 117th running of the Boston Marathon on April 15. Officials says the brothers set off two bombs by remote control that killed three people and injure more than 200 others four hours into the race.
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed in a confrontation with law enforcement officers on April 18. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured alive after a 24-hour manhunt in Massachusetts. He is now recovering from his injuries in a federal medical center where he is being held on charges of using a weapon of mass destruction, and with malicious destruction of property resulting in death.
