Newborn left on beach: Full-term baby abandoned and left to die?, A newborn left on a beach in Honolulu has horrified many after a woman discovered a crying infant laying in the sand. Inquisitr reports April 30 that the infant was naked in the sand completely abandoned.
The woman rushed the newborn to the hospital where the baby is said to be eating formula and seems healthy. Police are treating this disturbing case as endangering the welfare of a minor and child abandonment.
Leaving a newborn at a fire station, police station, hospital, or emergency services within 72 hours after birth is legal in Hawaii. In 2007 a baby safe haven law was enacted, which gives immunity to anyone leaving a baby at those places listed. Abandoning a newborn on a beach isn't the place to help them if a mother decides she can't raise the baby on her own.
Was the mother intent to leave her infant behind to die? Her actions are definitely questionable by heartlessly leaving the child behind after giving birth.
