SpaceX noise liability bill moves through Texas House

SpaceX noise liability bill moves through Texas House, An April 29, 2013 story the San Antonio Express reports that House Bill 1791, which would protect launch companies such as SpaceX from lawsuits due to noise, has been giving a preliminary approval by the Texas House. The measure is considered crucial for attracting a SpaceX operated space port to the vicinity of Brownsville Texas.

The bill would grant “immunity from liability to any person for damages resulting from nuisance arising from testing, launching, re-entering, or landing, and exempts such an entity from being subject to any claim for nuisance arising from testing, launching, re-entering, or landing.”

Previously the Texas House passed a separate piece of legislation that allowed for the closure of Boca Chica beach, nearby the proposed space port, during days in which SpaceX would launch rockets.

While no decision has been made concerning the location of SpaceX’s proposed space port, Texas legislators and other government officials are bending every effort to make Texas the most attractive alternative. Other possible locations include Florida, Georgia, and Puerto Rico.
