The earliest tornado reported in Europe occurred in Rosdalla, near Kilbeggan, Ireland.
1852
A tornado, following the same track as the famous "Tri-state Tornado" of 1925, struck the town of New Harmony, IN. 16 people were killed by the twister, due to the sparse settlement. In contrast, the "Tri-state Tornado" killed 695 people.
1888
246 people died in the world's deadliest hailstorm in India. Hailstones were reportedly the size of baseballs. 1600 domesticated animals at Moradabad perished.
1893
During the spring of 1893, a total of 21.83 inches of rain fell in the Springfield, IL area. This marks the wettest spring (March to May) on record.
1924
A major tornado outbreak occurred from Alabama to Virginia. 20 tornadoes were of F2 intensity or greater. A total of 111 people were killed and over 1,100 were injured. An F4 tornado tore through Steedman and Horrell Hill, SC. 55 people were killed from this tornado.
1947
While April does produce quite a few rainy days in Oklahoma City, OK, it is not known for extremely heavy rainfall. The exception to this rule came back in 1947, when almost one foot of rain fell during the month. The 11.91-inch monthly total at Oklahoma City made this the wettest April of record, but only the 8th heaviest monthly rainfall since accurate records began in 1891.
1951
Fresno, CA dropped to 37° with some frost reported in the outlying areas.
The latest time in spring that snow has fallen in Oklahoma City, OK was on this date and 4/30/1907.
1952
The following locations recorded their warmest April temperature: Winona, MN: 96°, Mather, WI: 92°, Neillsville, WI: 90°, Viroqua, WI: 90°, Alma, WI: 89°, Owen, WI: 87°.

1953
Jeffersonville and Warner Robbins, GA were hit by an F4 tornado. Warner Robbins Air Force Base was severely damaged. 19 people were killed, 300 injured, and total damage was estimated at $15 million dollars.
1962
A squall line moved through the Chicago area. The area from Hardin, to Springfield, to Hoopeston, IL was greatly affected, as was the area from Pontiac to Joliet to Chicago. The southern end of the squall line experienced winds of 55 to 90 mph, while the northern end had winds of 65 to 110 mph with unofficial gusts to 135 mph. At Rantoul, two people were killed by falling debris. In Springfield, a boy was killed when a chimney fell through a school roof.
1967
A late season blizzard swept across the northern plains into the first day of May. Snowfall across western South Dakota was generally in the 5 to 12 inch range with 16 inches at Lemmon and 30 inches in the northern Black Hills. Winds of 40 to 50 mph reduced visibilities to near zero and piled the snow into 4 to 5 foot drifts. Livestock losses were estimated at around 5% from the storm.
15.8 inches of snow fell at Sheridan, WY (25 inches fell from April 29th through May 3rd). Other totals: Red Lodge, MT 18 inches, Wyola, MT: 14 inches, Pryor/Yellowtail Dam, MT: 9 inches and Billings, MT: 6 inches.
Eastern South Dakota, Southwest Minnesota, and Northwest Iowa only received light snow.
In the warm sector, an F2 tornado touched down a mile and a half southeast of Austin, MN. As it moved north for 6 miles, it unroofed and tore apart at least two barns and one home. Another F2 tornado moved from Marion to just northeast of Eyota, MN destroying a barn and a trailer.
1981
Many cities in the western U.S. reported record high temperatures for the date. Bakersfield, CA set an all-time April record high of 101°. Big Bear Lake, CA also set an April record high of 82°. Daily records included: Fresno, CA: 100°, Stockton, CA: 100°, Las Vegas, NV: 99°, Bishop, CA: 93°, Mobile, AL: 91°, Winnemucca, NV: 90°, Reno, NV: 89°, Elko, NV: 86°, Ely, NV: 78° and Flagstaff, AZ: 78°.
1985
A giant slab of ice, six feet long and eight inches thick, weighing over 1,500 pounds, fell into a backyard in Hartford, CT. The ice probably came off of a high flying jet plane.
1986
The driest January through April period in the history of Birmingham, AL came to a close. Total rainfall for the period was 6.00 inches, compared with a normal of 21.46 inches. The previous record drought for this period was 10.72 inches in 1972.
1987
Many cities in the central and southeastern U.S. reported record high temperatures for the date. Records included: Columbia, SC: 93°, Augusta, GA: 93, Macon, GA: 93, Meridian, MS: 92°, Tupelo, MS: 92°, Memphis, TN: 91°, Greenville/Spartanburg, SC: 91°, Fort Smith, AR: 90°, Atlanta, GA: 89° and Nashville, TN: 89°.
1988
A cold front produced high winds in the southwestern U.S. Winds gusting to 90 mph in southwestern Utah downed power lines, and damaged trees and outbuildings. The high winds also downed power lines in Nevada, completely knocking out power in the town of Henderson.
An earthquake 46 miles west of San Diego, CA generated large surf of 14 feet with sets to 20 feet. It is unknown if that was a tsunami.
9.8 inches of rain fell in 24-hours on the eastern coast of Australia between Wollongong and Sydney causing landslides and washing out roads and railroad tracks.
1989
Thunderstorms produced severe weather in central and eastern Texas. Hail three inches in diameter was reported at Cool, and thunderstorm winds gusted to 80 mph at Hillsboro.
Thunder was not heard officially in Oklahoma City, OK during April 1989. That was the only April in the history of Oklahoma City, since 1891, that passed with no observation of thunder on any day of the month.
1990
Late afternoon and evening thunderstorms produced severe weather in southern Virginia and the Carolinas, with tennis ball size hail reported southeast of Chesnee, SC. Thunderstorms moving over the Chesapeake Bay flooded U.S. Highway 50 on Kent Island, MD with several inches of water resulting in a 17-mile long traffic jam.
1991
Alta, UT ended April with record snowfall total of 136.2 inches. The season total of 580 inches was almost 100 inches above normal.
Memphis, TN set a new monthly rainfall record for April with 17.13 inches of rain. The old record was 13.90 inches set back in 1877.
1992
The heat was definitely on in the central U.S. The following cities set record high temperatures not only for the date but for the month of April as well: Valentine, NE: 100°, North Platte, NE: 98°, Denver, CO: 90°, Colorado Springs, CO: 87°, Casper, WY: 84°, and Cheyenne, WY: 83°. Pueblo, CO tied an April record with 93°.
Daily records included: Aberdeen, SD: 98°, Goodland, KS: 96°, Huron, SD: 95°, Fargo, ND: 94°, Bismarck, ND: 93°, Grand Island, NE: 93°, Scottsbluff, NE: 93°, Rapid City, SD: 92°, Grand Forks, ND: 90° and Lincoln, NE: 90°.
The temperature climbed to 92° at the Sioux Falls, SD airport. While quite warm for April it was not a record high for the date. However, it turned out to be the warmest day of the year. This is the only time on record for Sioux Falls when the warmest temperature of the year has occurred in April.
The past month was 0.3 degrees below normal at Raleigh, NC. This ended an amazingly long streak of 27 consecutive months of normal or above normal temperatures. The streak began in January 1990. The previous record streak of 11 months extended from July 1912 to May 1913.
1994
It finally stopped raining on the Kaneohe Ranch on the island of Oahu in Hawaii ending a streak of 247 consecutive days of rain which began 8/27/1993.
1996
All-time snow records fell around the Great Lakes for winter 1995-96 total snowfall: Cleveland, OH: 101 inches, Marquette, MI: 248.7 inches with a record 42 inches in April.
1997
A line of severe thunderstorms moved across Illinois during the afternoon and evening hours. Several tornadoes were produced, most of them weak, as well as wind gusts as high as 70 mph. The most damaging tornado occurred in Fulton County, when two separate thunderstorms merged. In the town of Fairview, several homes were damaged, with two people injured. In Middle Grove, the tornado destroyed two mobile homes and damaged 25 houses. The tornado then took an intermittent northeast path across Fulton, southeast Knox, western Peoria, and Stark Counties. Other tornadoes touched down in Macon, McLean, Adams, Hancock, and Montgomery Counties. Severe storms brought 75 mph winds to Elkhart, IN and 67 mph winds to Constantine, MI. Trees and power lines were blown down around Cassopolis.
Baseball sized hail fell at the Ballpark in Arlington, TX as the Texas Rangers played the Cleveland Indians.
2005
April 2005 went down in the history books as one of the driest months in recorded history. Both Oklahoma City and Norman, OK had only measured just under 0.3 inches for the month. On average, the April rainfall total should be around 2.5 to 3 inches.
2008
Heavy rain and melting snow cause the Madawaska River to overflow in Fredericton, Nova Scotia Canada where water levels were measured at 23.9 feet.
