Jack Shea dies: Legendary director of numerous TV shows passes away, Those that are fans of a great number of television shows will be sad to know that the LA Times reported on Monday, April 29, 2013, that director Jack Shea has passed away. Shea is a veteran of Hollywood that has directed a large amount of popular television shows and was even the former president of the Directors Guild of America.

Jack Shea was 84-years-old.

A spokesman for the Shea family said that the legendary director died on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at a care facility in Tarzana. He passed away due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.

He was a mere 27-years-old when he got his first shot at directing on television. He was asked to fill in for a director that called in sick, and Shea got to head a game show called "Truth or Consequences." From there, he went on to do so many great series and also directed 10 of the Bob Hope Christmas specials.

The show he spent the most time on was "The Jeffersons," of which he directed 110 episodes. Coming in second on his list was "Silver Spoons," and he directed 91 of those. From there, Shea also sat in the director's chair for episodes of "Growing Pains," "The Waltons," "Sanford and Son," "Designing Women," and others.

"He loved his family and God and the Directors Guild, though not necessarily in that order," said his daughter, Shawn Shea, who, like two of her brothers, is also a guild member.
