Worker dies in blender at Oregon meat plant, A worker died in a blender at an Oregon factory Friday night. According to an April 30 ABC News report, Hugo Avalos-Channon, 41, fell into a running blender at a meat processing plant in Portland.

The victim worked for DCS Sanitation Management. The company had a contract with the plant, Interstate Meat Distributors.

Paramedics and the sheriff’s department were called to scene around 11:45 p.m. Though another worker hit the emergency stop button, it was too late. The body of Mr. Avalos-Channon, 41, immediately became entangled in the machinery. Firefighters took apart the machine and removed the body the next day.

The cause of death has been listed as "blunt-force injuries and chopping wounds." Foul play is not suspected.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are conducting an investigation to see if safety guidelines were in place. The investigation could take up to six months.

When a worker dies in a blender, an investigation is bound to take place. An OSHA spokesperson urges the public not to jump to conclusions. The president of Interstate Meat Distributors is in full cooperation with the investigation.
